Steal Her Style: Kate Beckinsale

Steal Her Style Kate Beckinsale

It’s easy for a celeb to look glam all the timethey often have stylists and beauty teams at their beck and call. Why not benefit from their access to experts and take inspiration from their looks? In my Steal Her Style series, I’ll turn the spotlight on a Celeb Yummy Mummy, and analyze the key elements behind her style. I’ll also pick some of my favourite casual outfits and recreate them with affordable pieces currently available in stores. If you have a Steal Her Style request for a future post, please leave it in the comment section below!

This month’s spotlight is on Kate Beckinsale. With her voluminous bun and sleek layers, she is the queen of casual style, always looking chic and put together, even when out on the simplest errands. Her cold weather look has quite a simple formula: skinny jeans/leggings, cropped sweater layered over a longer tank, boots/booties, and a hobo bag. She favours a neutral palette of greys, creams, and blacks, and accessorizes with cat-eye ray-bans, fabulous hair, pale pink lips, and peachy cheeks. She often completes her look with a soft scarf fluffed up around her neck.

STEAL HER STYLE:

  1. Long Tank, $7, Old Navy
  2. Black Hobo Bag, $24.94, Old Navy
  3. Tall Black Boot, $49.99, Le Chateau
  4. Black Skinny Jeans, $44.90 plus 30% off, Dynamite

Six Great Cross-Body Bags for Every Budget

Perfect Post-Diaper Bags for When You're Out with Your Kids

Six Great Cross-Body Bags for Every Budget

Crossbody bags for every budget

The end of the potty-training stage brings a lot of positive changes — including finally being free of the diaper bag! No more toting around potty seats, wipes, pull-ups or extra sets of clothes — everything is streamlined and it's much easier getting out the door.

Structured cross-body bags are the perfect next step after saying goodbye to your diaper bag. The hands-free strap ensures you can hold your kiddies' hands, while the structured shape makes it easy to store your essentials (phone/keys/wallet) plus any kiddy extras (snacks/Boogie Wipes).

There are structured cross-body bags for every price point, from designer pieces to mall finds. While it's a good idea to invest in something you'll use for a long time — it has to be something that fits into your budget — and that you'd be comfortable using without fear of spoiling it.

Here are 6 of my favorite structured cross-bodies:

The Celine Luggage tote has been wildly popular among celebrities (Nicky Hilton is pictured above), with it's 'robot-face' and winged sides. The Nano has all the famous features of the Luggage tote, but in a teeny scaled down size. It's completely adorable, and it has to be, considering it retails for more than $2,400!

The Phillip Lim Pashli is also very distinctive, with its unique pushlock and double zipped sides. In the picture above, Rachel Bilson is carrying the white Mini Pashli, which costs around $650. However, if you were lucky enough to access Phillip Lim's collaboration with Target, you could have scored a faux leather version in a similar shape for less than $35. (Confession — I still scan the bag section at Target hoping to find a leftover bag...no such luck!)

The Michael Kors Selma Messenger bag comes in a wide range of colors — from bright Neon (like the one Alessandra Ambrosio is carrying) to a classic tan. The bag is made of saffiano leather, which is durable and easy to care for. It retails for around $260.

The Coach Mini Tanner is my cross-body bag of choice — you can see me with my Navy & Citron version in the picture above. The shape and size remind me of the Celine Nano, but at nearly a tenth of the price. I've had mine for nearly a year and I love it — amazing quality and still looks like new. Like the Selma Messenger, it also retails for around $260.

The Forever21 Glam Faux Croc Crossbody has a classic shape (reminiscent of a Louis Vuitton Speedy) with gold hardware and a gorgeous navy color. There is a lot of attention to detail which belies its $29.80 price tag — including embossed faux leather and studded 'feet' at the bottom of the bag.

I've always had amazing luck with ALDO bags, I've found their stitching and material holds up even with daily use. The YONG bag has a glam shape and luxe lock and key detail. Although pricier than the Forever21 bag at $40, it can do double duty as an evening bag if you tuck away the cross-body chain.

Do you save or splurge when it comes to handbags? Based on design (not price) which of these bags is your favorite?

Beat The Blahs: Glam Up Your Winter Look For Under $20!

You don't have to wait until spring to add colour to your wardrobe

Beat The Blahs: Glam Up Your Winter Look For Under $20!

Surrounded by grey skies and slushy streets, it is easy to get caught up in the Winter Blahs. Wearing layer upon layer of warm, but bland, clothing can often add to an overall sense of dreariness. While the florals of Spring and the light pieces of Summer are still months away, you don't have to wait until then to brighten up your outfit. Add some colour and sparkle to your winter layers with statement necklaces and snuggly scarves.

I believe that fashion is where you find ityou can buy gorgeous pieces in unexpected places. Some of my friends steer clear of teen-targeted stores. I think they're missing out, because you can pick up bits and pieces to add interest to your outfit, while still looking age appropriate. Why leave all the fabulous bargains for the teenswe deserve them, too!

A statement necklace is the perfect way to liven up your sweaters and shirts. These necklaces would pair easily with grey, cream, or black tops. For an extra preppy look, wear a buttoned-up gingham shirt under a crew neck sweater with a sparkly necklace peeking out at the collar. The necklaces below are all from Forever 21they are my go-to destination for quality necklaces at amazing prices.

Top Row: Fancy Rhinestoned Necklace ($18.80), Worldly Beaded Bib Necklace ($10.80), Bold Beaded Bib Necklace ($11.80)

Bottom Row: Opulent Layered Bib Necklace ($15.80), Opulent Floral Bib ($19.80), Favorite Layered Bead Necklace ($10.80)

Scarves are a necessity in this weather, so why not choose one that lifts your spirits, too? Cable knits, Plaid, and Leopard prints are particularly popular this season. Eternity scarves are a great choice, just drape them and forget about themno need to constantly adjust or worry about loose ends.

Top Row: Solid Knitted Eternity Scarf ($19.90 at Dynamite), Wild Thing Leopard Scarf ($15.80 at Forever21), Women's Reversible Infinity Scarves ($19.94 at Old Navy),

Bottom Row: Chunky Tartan Scarf ($20 at Smart Set), Knit Eternity Scarf ($19.90 at Garage), Sweet Abstract Floral Scarf ($11.80 at Forever21)

Perk up your look with these fab finds, and feel a spring return to your step!
