Why You Should Wear the Same Clothes Everyday

It's the Secret to Success!

Wearing the same clothes everyday could get very....stinky! But wearing the same TYPE of clothes could save you a lot of time.

Think about it - no need to worry if you were color-blocking or pattern-mixing or...horror of horrors - breaking any FASHION rules. Just slip on your "uniform" and get on with your day.

Did you know that wearing the same clothes every day is actually thought to be a secret of really successful people? When asked why he wore the same t-shirt everyday, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg said “I’m in this really lucky position where I get to wake up every day and help serve more than a billion people. I really want to clear my life to make it so that I have to make as few decisions as possible about anything, except how to best serve this community.

And he's not the only person who doesn't want to waste mental energy on their clothing choices. U.S. President Barack Obama mainly sticks to gray or blue suits. He stated in an interview that "I’m trying to pare down decisions. I don’t want to make decisions about what I’m eating or wearing. Because I have too many other decisions to make."

And while men usually have it easier when it comes to simple clothing choices (them: shirt and pants, us: dress or skirt or pants or romper, maxi or midi or mini, blouse or sleeveless or halter-neck etc!) there has been a movement of women in media committing to simplicity.  Matilda Kahl wrote a popular piece for Harpers Bazaar on "Why I Wear the Exact Same Thing to Work Every Day." She created a simple uniform for herself after a frustrating morning wasted on deciding what to wear to an important meeting - at the cost of actually preparing for and participating in the meeting.

Reading these articles definitely gave me a lot to think about. As a fashion blogger - I do spend quite some time writing about clothes. And I enjoy dressing up once in a while - it makes me feel happy and confident. Yet, when I think about it - most of the time, I also stick to a basic uniform when it comes to dressing:

I favor white and cream colored tops and dark skinny jeans. In the summer, I wear ballet flats and statement necklaces, while in the winter I change them out for knee-high boots and scarves. I think having this basic formula to stick with helps me keep my dressing process relatively simple - while allowing me to inject color and variety through my scarves and necklaces. Sidenote...the size of my necklace and scarf collection is slightly embarrassing!

And while I don't think I'll go to the extreme of wearing identical clothes everyday, I do think I'll keep stocking my wardrobe with staples that will make it easy for me to get dressed every day without wasting too much mental energy!

If you like wearing scarves - here's a step-by-step tutorial on how to wear them four different ways! And this post shows you how to get the most mileage out of the clothes you already own.
