This Community Christmas-in-March Story is What We All Need Right Now

You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch

I don’t know about you, but I’m at the point where I’m afraid to turn on my computer. I used to pop onto Facebook while having my morning coffee to see what was happening with my friends, but now my news stream is filled with crappy stories that leave me with a pit in my stomach.

So it was with much delight that I came across this story about a neighbourhood in Homewood, Alabama who came together to bring Christmas cheer and support an elderly man who lives there.

Warning: The first part of this story may make you stabby, but I promise it has a happy ending.

Mr. Frank has been living in the neighbourhood for years, and in fact, grew up in his home. And some chicken sh*t of a person decided to leave an anonymous note in Mr. Frank’s mailbox telling him that a group of neighbours is concerned about the appearance of "some homes" on the street and, in turn, their property values.

It goes on to say they would like him to remove his Christmas decorations and that he should consider cleaning his yard.

Oh, and that it may be in his best interest to consider selling his home so that the yard can be landscaped properly and the house torn down so a new one can be built that’s better suited to the neighbourhood.

And guess what? He’s not the only person who received this letter!

I told you it would make you a bit stabby.

But it turns out there are many people in the neighbourhood who love Mr. Frank so the kids and their parents got together and decided to drag out their Christmas decorations that had been put back in storage to support him and get their point across but in a light-hearted way.

And if that isn’t amazing enough, the kids of the neighbourhood also wrote Mr. Frank letters letting him know they all love him just the way he is and don’t want him to change a thing.

I don’t know about you, but that’s a neighbourhood I would love to live in.

Thank you, Homewood community, for spreading Christmas cheer to Mr. Frank and for everyone who gets to share in this story.

And to the Grinch who wrote the letter? Maybe in the future you could offer up and hour or two of your time to help him take down his lights instead of being cowardly and putting an anonymous note in a mailbox. It looks like you’ll be basking in the glow of Christmas lights for a long time to come.

You can watch the full video below. It pairs well with a peppermint hot chocolate and shortbread cookie.
