Bloggers Give Back & My {Dream} Secret Garden

Toronto bloggers work together give back

Bloggers Give Back & My {Dream} Secret Garden

The Secret Garden was my favourite book as a young girl.

When I imagined my dream house growing up, it always had a walled garden with a secret door. Only I would have the key.

I dreamed of a place to escape to. A beautiful, secret hideaway. I dreamed of something just like this....

Some fabulous Toronto design bloggers are creating a Secret Garden {of sorts} as a part of a project called, Bloggers Give Back.

It is an amazing idea, started by Lindsay from Little House Blog, to create a beautiful outdoor space for the women of George Herman House in Toronto. George Herman House assists women living with mental health issues. The home provides a safe, nurturing home for the women It was established to help empower them and assist them in making a transition into independent living. They had a request on their website for help in turn their garden into a space for the residents of the house and we are making it happen! Find about more about this amazing project here.

Stay tuned for more updates from me, and from all of the amazing bloggers taking part.

Jessie's Renocation: the REVEAL

girl's dream bedroom

Jessie's Renocation: the REVEAL

I think I am still in shock that Erica and Royale made a dream come true for me by asking me to renocate seven year old Jessie’s bedroom. This was my first time designing a space for someone else and it just happened to be for my boss’s daughter. And on tv. No pressure right?

Still, I have had the most fun creating a dream room for Jessie...the planning, the shopping, the painting and the styling. I loved every single minute.

Now it's time for the reveal, for Jessie to see her new beautiful room.

I was so incredibly nervous leading up to this moment. I wanted Jessie to love her room. I wanted her to see that I listened to all of her ideas and that I did my best to create the room of her dreams.

Check out her reaction and the REVEAL video here

Not only have I been excited to see what Jessie thought of her new space, I have been eager {and anxious} to share it with you too. I’d love to know what you think about my first big decorating project!

Thanks again to Pottery Barn Kids, Ikea, Benjamin Moore and 2 Guys Painting for helping me to make this reno-cation so beautiful.

Don't forget, there is still time to enter the Royale $25,000 Reno-cation contest! I love the idea of a contest that gives two of my favourite things as the prize: travel and design. What more could a girl want?!

Enter the Royale $25,000 Reno-cation contest for the chance to win a $10,000 Home Renovation of your choice and a $10,000 Dream Vacation to anywhere in the world. Plus 1 of 15 weekly prizes totalling $5,000!  Because no mummy should ever have to choose between a renovation or a vacation.

You have until May 29, 2011 to make your dreams come true!

Your Design Suggestions for Jessie's Room: Part 2

stylish ideas for a little girl's dream room

Your Design Suggestions for Jessie's Room: Part 2

I have received hundreds and hundreds of outstanding ideas for Jessie’s room! I can’t say again how helpful all of your tips and suggestions have been. This has been my first major design project and I feel so lucky to be sharing the experience with all of you.

Here are a few more of your amazing design tips for Jessie’s room. Feel free to steal them and use them in your own home! I know I will.

Brenda from Moncton, N.B. suggested that I sit down with Jessie and discuss her dreams for her room, her favourite colours and hobbies. I could not agree more. Jessie had strong ideas for her room and even had photographs to share with me which really helped me create her dream room.

Kim from Toronto, ON had a great tip for dressing up a piece of furniture with glass hardware. I love these from Anthropologie, don’t you?

Cheryl from St. Eugene, ON {and many more of you} think I should go with Dave on the paint colour and stick to all pale pink in the playroom. Hmmmmmm...

Corrine from Provost, AB suggested the use of accent pillows as an opportunity to inject colour and pattern into the space.

Diane from St. Catherines, ON wants me to paint the bed frame in white. I was going to do just that but Dave, from 2 Guys Painting pointed out that paint would not adhere to the surface well.

Jenna from Vancouver, BC loves using flowers to brighten up any room. I could not agree more {and Jessie loves flowers}.

Jen from Burlington, ON suggested switching the bedroom and playroom. I love the idea of rethinking the function of the space.

Katherine from Thornhill, ON believes Jessie should purge some of the clutter in her room. One of my favourite budget-friendly ways to revive a space is edit, edit, edit. Only keep what you love.

Marci from Otterburn Park, QC suggested creating a poster collage of Jessie’s beautiful artwork. I love the idea of making a keepsake out of children’s artwork!

Many of you fell in love with the first of the three Ikea desks that I suggested for Jessie’s room. You loved its style and the hidden storage. But, you’ll just have to wait and see what I choose.

There are only a few more days until the reveal. I am SO excited to see Jessie’s reaction. I hope she loves it as much as I think she will!! I can’t wait to hear your reaction too.

We're giving away a $300 Home Hardware gift card to five lucky mummies.

All you need to do to enter is:

1) Watch this video to see what I bought and to hear my paint dilemma.

2) Go to our contest section and give me your decorating suggestions and advice!

And after you do that, don’t forget to enter Royale's amazing $25,000 Reno-cation contest. Can you think of anything better than a prize of a home reno and a dream holiday? Me either! Go now, and if you win, please take me with you....I need a vacation after all of this hard work!
