Craft Room Makeover: From Disaster To DIY-er's Dream

Check out these amazing before and after shots

Our basement storage room was a winning contender for an episode of Hoarders. Seriously. I had to climb over boxes and bins to get to my craft supplies. I redid the rest of the basement in the spring, so I decided to tackle this neglected corner of our house over the Christmas holiday.

Here is what it looked like before . . . okay, if I'm honest, here is what it looked like before, after I cleaned it for about two hours:

A mess, right?

With a little—okay, a lot—of paint, I transformed it from that hot mess into this:

I painted almost everything. The walls are a fresh minty colour, which, I admit, is one of my favourite colours to decorate with. This one is Irish Mint, by Benjamin Moore. The floors were a dingy vinyl, so I painted them too, this time in Benjamin Moore floor paint. The white brightens the space so much. The desk also got a couple coats of Benjamin Moore's Simply White, this time in Advance—it is piece we have had in our family since I was a child, so I am happy it now has a home. I sprayed the chair a bright red, which was a daring move for this pastel-loving girl.

Next to the desk, the shelves contain many of my craft supplies, including paint, glitter, ribbon, tape, and more. Scrapbook paper is stored in a magazine rack and basket above.

The shelves house all of the items that I am not currently using to decorate the rest of the house, along with items for styling projects. The baskets below store extra frames, cushions, and canvases.

I made this peg board over the desk to hold some of my DIY supplies. Watch this short video to see how you can make your own.

Because I am the only one that will see this room (except for all of you), I didn't want to go to town on the budget. I repurposed many pieces that I already had. For the art, I framed pages from a Maud Lewis calendar. They are a great reminder of my home.

The transformation is huge, don't you think?

I can't wait to get crafty in my new space!
