The Two Most Inspiring Tony Acceptance Speeches

How Mothers/Motherhood Played A Part In This Year's Award Show

If you haven't guessed yet, I'm a bit obsessed with musical theatre. I love Broadway and was especially interested in watching the Tony Awards last night because a) I saw three shows on Broadway last month b) I adore NPH, love him in How I Met Your Mother, and love him even more after watching an interview with him (and his adorable family) on Oprah's Next Chapter c) my cousin Caissie Levy performed last night with her two co-starts from Ghost The Musical.

When I was a kid I used to wish my life were a musical (Ok...maybe I still wish that sometimes). And I totally agree with what NPH aptly sang in his opening number last night: “If life were more like theater, life wouldn’t suck so much!”

For me, two acceptance speeches made the whole show worthwhile. The passion these two possess is unshakable and I woke up this morning still thinking about what they said.

Audra McDonald won for her performance in The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess, now on my list of must-see shows! The way her daughter hugged her in the audience before she made her way to the stage, I knew I loved her before I heard her speech...

And, Steve Kazee, the dreamy lead actor in Once The Musical, which I saw and adored! You won't be able to watch his speech without crying. Trust me! His courage is so inspiring and his words are so heartfelt. This is what these awards are really all about!
