When the colours of fall turn to gray, it is time to start preparing for the cold. Back to comfort meals cooked in the oven, and while it’s hot, why not throw in some baking treats?
Running out of ideas for dinner? Try this simple and healthy soup. It is a meal in itself, with chicken, vegetables and pasta. Children just love it because it triggers their imagination. My best friend’s 5-year-old daughter asked me once: “Shooting stars? Does it mean we can make a wish?” So cute!
My grandmother always had a pot of soup on the stove. Made with love, fresh herbs, and the best vegetables from her garden. Soup is comforting, easy to prepare, and could be a meal in itself if you add meat or beans and any grain, like rice or pasta.
1. Start with 6 to 8 cups of a good broth.
2. Bring it to a boil and add about 2 cups of any vegetables you have, making sure to include garlic, onions, or leek. Top with fresh (or dry) herbs like thyme, oregano, sage, or rosemary.
Congratulations to the winner and finalists of the Canada’s Best Sandwich Contest organized by Ace Bakery. Jean Émond form Montreal won the Grand prize with his North African Lamb Sandwich with Harissa and Figs. Very original!
It's oyster season and we want to make the most of it! Tasting oysters for me is like receiving a kiss from the sea and it gets even better when paired with the right wine.
With oysters, you want a crisp and mineral white wine and here's some of my top pairing, under $25:
When I am last minute for a dessert, I always make apple crumble, always a comforting treat. Apples are a one of the fruits we always have in the fridge, especially in the Fall, and it takes less than 10 minutes to make fresh apple sauce. I just throw the peeled apples in a small pot with a pinch of cinnamon, over 1 inch of water, and let it boil until soft and smooth. In the meantime, I put together the crumble with the following ingredients:
Over the last few years in September, I select the freshest tomatoes I can find at the market and I put them in jars. Because I love it too much! Having fresh tomatoes all year round is one the greatest pleasures in life, and you’ll know it when you open your jar full of sunshine on a dark cold winter night. ! can assure you that it is easy and not too long to do. In total, it takes me less than two hours for a dozen of jars and 20 pounds of fresh organic tomatoes that cost me $17.
This recipe comes from a friend of mine who lived in Italy for seven years. It's a fan-favourite around our house!
I asked her what her son’s favorite meal was, and she said pasta, of course, but it was not the typical tomato sauce and/or spaghetti and meatball type I expected—it was what we call here in Canada a good old Mac n’ Cheese, but this one has an Italian twist!
It's so easy you won’t believe it, and it is made with whatever cheese and pasta you have left over in the house.
When I was doing my TTC (Yoga Teacher's Training) a few years ago, I was chosen to be in the kitchen. Everyone had to do a specific chore, which they'd call 'Karma Yoga' — they ranged from gardening to repair work and from housekeeping to toilet cleaning—I am ever happy I got cooking!!! Anyhow, my every day job for 6 weeks was to prepare the morning muesli... and I loved it! I became so good at it that my fellow student friends started calling me the 'Muesli Goddess.'
For Father’s Day, treat your dad with the best roast beef he’ll ever have, with this easy and delicious recipe. It’s so easy and quick to make that you’ll even have time to prepare the Yorkshire Puddings.
I was quite impressed when my daughter made this dish at home, impress because it was not just original but really good. Such a perfect long weekend pasta dish to make with the kids. Easy and fun!
To make this great recipe, you will only need 2 ingredients:
400g of spaghetti
6 sausages
Cut the sausages in 3 parts and stick the spaghetti through.
Cook in salted boiling water for about 10 minutes or the time indicated on the pasta package.
The other night, I came home from work really close to dinnertime which meant it was perfect opportunity to try a new recipe from Cook With Campbell’s. Since we all wanted something a little sweet and very comforting, I decided on the Maple Dijon Chicken, made with Campbell’s Stock First Cream stock. Everyone loved it! Especially me, since I was able to prepare this gourmet meal in less than 15 minutes.
Beyond the never-ending controversy it created in the media, I have to admit that I love Gwyneth Paltrow's new cookbook. Not as much as her first one—My Father's Daughter—which is one of my favorite recipe book ever, but I still love it. I even rushed to the library on April 2nd and paid $35 for the hard cover. I was really looking forward to it, and I wasn't disappointed. Even though people seem to dislike the fact that she talks about her health issues, it did take her to a path of consciousness that she is brave enough to share with us.
This is what I tasted for the first time in Toronto during the 7th edition of Terroir Symposium, an impressive event that brings chefs, producers, journalists, bloggers, Epicureans and thinkers from all over Canada and the world, to discuss food and gastronomy. What a joy to be immersed in an environment that exudes unpretentious avant-garde and passionate ideas about the culinary world, within and beyond our borders.
I just baked the best chocolate cake ever! Dairy-free and gluten-free!
I am not a dessert fan at all, but I had a craving for dark chocolate and I found this recipe. What I love most about it is that I felt nourished after I ate it as opposed to usual desserts that make me feel bloated or tired, after the sugar rush. And my entire family loved it too!!! Here are the details of my success story.
