Halloween is all about fun! And with so much sugar around, here are some ideas to build the meal squeleton of your kids' day on a fun-gory, but healthy and nutritious scale . . .
Cheese is one of my ultimate comfort foods because it is linked to my best childhood memories. I remember going to the cheddar cheese factory with my grandmother for fresh warm squeaky white cheddar that we would sprinkle with salt and devour. In my mother’s Eastern Township hometown, getting fresh cheese was part of day-to-day life, just like going to church on Sunday.
Have you noticed that we see cabbage everywhere at this time of year, in all kinds of different colours and shapes? My favourite is red cabbage, not only because I love the colour purple, but it is also the one with the most vitamins. Red cabbage has 10 times more vitamin A and twice as much iron as green cabbage. Here is a great recipe to appreciate it even more—with kale and apple, it enhances its flavour and balances the bitterness.
We now know more than ever that a daily regime high in fruits and vegetables is the best to promote vitality and good health, and prevent cancer and other diseases. Plus, we all know that since the body is made of at least 70% water, we do need to stay hydrated. Sometimes a headache is just a simple message from your body to remind you to drink a glass of water . . . or to have a slice of watermelon.
1. Watermelon is made of 92% water, so it is really hydrating. And as we know, water is vital for a healthy body.
Can you believe we are already getting ready for fall? I feel like we haven’t seen summer…
So, I decided to really enjoy the last days before the back-to-school routine kicks in and the one-pot oven meals and slow cooker season begins. Here is my ultimate late summer menu:
Here is a perfect summer recipe, which I learned during my Italian Cooking Immersion in Parma at Academia Barilla. It is easy to make, and even though it requires a little more time, your patience will be rewarded with ecstatic pleasure, as it is so delish! So, get your mixer ready and let's whip up an unforgettable dessert.
Basil is one of the best herbs to grow in your garden or even in a box on your balcony. It is lush, fragrant, and the perfect aromatic touch to many meals, especially tomato-based.
I personally put basil in everything—in fresh water, in desserts, even in a mojito instead of mint!
1. Eating gluten-free doesn’t mean it has to be boring. Think variety. Try a new recipe—for example, fresh fish seasoned with olive oil, lemon juice, and thyme, served with a fresh peas and mint quinoa salad, or a simple veggie and rice salad.
2. Think colour! Your meals will not only be very appetizing, but colour in fresh produce is a reminder that they contain vitamins and antioxidants.
I had the immense pleasure of being invited to another outstanding edition of Terroir Symposium in Toronto. What an amazing day we had with fabulous chefs and speakers who came from all over Canada, the United States, and the world.
It's lobster season once again. Woohoo! It means summer is right around the corner! To enjoy this marvel from the sea to its best, here are 3 easy ways to eat it—whole, in a bun, and in a bowl.
Spring is here, but it surely doesn’t feel like it yet! This is probably the longest winter we’ve known and even though we know that the good weather is ahead of us, warm sunny days are still few and far in between and that is tough on our yummy mummy mood.
Try adding these superfoods to your daily menu and notice how they help boost your energy and lighten your moods:
Good food is basic for good health, and that goes for dogs, too, of course!
As mothers, most of us love cooking for our kids and family. And even if we are not always in the mood, we make sure they have the best food on the table to grow healthy and strong. But would you go to the extent of cooking for your dog?
Dog-Gone Good Cuisine is a new and quite original book of easy and healthy recipes for you and your pooch.
My family loves when I make ribs! This colourful and easy recipe is perfect for this weather, and lets us forget that we are desperately hoping for Spring!
Pasta is a dish you can enjoy every day. Whether you share your meal with family or friends, whether you choose a long shape, a short pasta or a tube, whether it is whole wheat, gluten free, or traditional durum, a pasta dish is easy and quick to prepare, requires few ingredients, and is always a sure bet with everyone. I had the chance to have a Pasta Master Class with a chef from Bologna, Italy—Chef Lorenzo Boni—and here is what I learned.
Valentine's Day was always celebrated in my house as a kid. My mom, who was an "ahead of her time" Yummy Mummy, would put a Valentine's card and a special treat on our breakfast plate on Valentine's morning. I will never forget the beautiful red hearts and messages of love—it made us feel so special! Of course, I do this at home now with my daughter.
Here is an idea for Valentine's Day—instead of spending lots of money in a crowded restaurant, why don't you make a romantic dinner at home? I find fondue to be the ultimate and cozy treat in the winter. Plus, there's no cooking since it's all done on the table, and the setting is so romantic and sexy.
Here's the best recipe to make a Swiss-style cheese fondue from scratch:
Who thought we would ever see these two words in the same sentence without a catch 22?? Usually the word creammmy means yummmmy, but it also means fattttty!!!
Not this time, all 5 ingredients are healthy:
Kale
Avocado
Carrots
Toasted nuts
Lemon
No oil, no cream or any other dairy products. In fact, it is the avocado that creates the perfect creamy dressing texture, and the lemon juice keep it fresh and green.
