What to Expect from Cameron Diaz

Hollywood Tackles Pregnancy

Hollywood tends not to go for realism when it comes to depicting pregnancy. Expecting women glow and touch their bellies, and the labour scenes... Well, one push and the baby's out, already scrubbed and polished and several weeks' old.

But then again, cinema glamourizes many things, pregnancy being just one of them. The question is, will Cameron Diaz change its track record by bringing the necessary grit to the 9-month haul with which we're all so intimately familiar?

In the comedy What To Expect When You’re Expecting, based on the best-selling pregnancy manual by Heidi Murkoff, Diaz tries to inject some verisimilitude, despite not being a mom herself. At first glance, the prosthetic bump is impressive enough, though maybe her battle to stay uberfit throughout her pregnancy not so much.

Along with Diaz, co-stars including Jennifer Lopez, Elizabeth Banks, Chace Crawford, Brooklyn Decker, Dennis Quaid, and Chris Rock, come together to paint a picture of the roller coaster ride of pregnancy. Glowing for some, misery for others. To balance things out, J-Lo plays a woman adopting a baby from another country.

Watch the trailer. Verdict? Will you pay good money to see it?
