Operation Raise a Flag this Remembrance Day

Remember Our Vets

Operation Raise a Flag this Remembrance Day

Do you remember? Comedian, television writer and Gemini Award winner, Rick Mercer does. That's why he's lending to Operation Raise a Flag and urging Canadians to do the same this Remembrance Day.

The campaign honours our country's war veterans. By purchasing a small flag, your personalized message of thanks will be imprinted and given to vets. Proceeds from the flags go to the Veterans Comfort Fund at the Sunnybrook Veterans Centre, funding equipment and community outings for veteran residents.

So, let's honour our past vets by giving them the best possible quality of life at Sunnybrook.

Flags come in two sizes, and range from $20 or $50 per donation. Organizers are hoping to sell 5,000 flags.  You can get yours here.

Please join Rick by spreading the word on Twitter and Facebook.

Justin Bieber a Daddy?

The Birds and the Biebs

Justin Bieber a Daddy?

Well, his voice has hardly broken but Canadian pop star Justin Bieber already faces paternity allegations in California.

Last week the 17-year-old squeaky clear singer was just seen adopting a puppy with his girlfriend. But nothing prepared him for the real dad deal.

After Bieber's alleged tryst backstage at a Los Angeles concert with a fan named Mariah Yeater, the 20-year-old Californian claims Biebs is the dad of her three-month-old baby.

His representatives are obviously calling the claim "malicious, defamatory and demonstrably false."

Apparently Yeater signed an affidavit saying Bieber propositioned her last October, and the pair had sex sans protection in a bathroom stall.

He wouldn't be the first wholesome mop-haired pop idol to fall from grace in the public eye. Racy photos of Biebs and girlfriend, Selena Gomez, have abounded, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that the teen is sexually active.

Rather than brush it under the carpet, the Bieber's paternity scandal might prove a worthy cautionary tale to tweens everywhere and prompt many parents to have "The Talk" yet again.

C-Sections Voluntary for UK

All Hail Caesar!

C-Sections Voluntary for UK

In a "huge" new move by the National Health Service (NHS), women in the UK can give birth by Caesarean section, even when it's not a medical necessity.

According to new guidelines by The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), even healthy women with low-risk pregnancies can opt for C-sections if they prefer that birth method.

Although some obstetricians argue that Caesareans are "now much safer", it's still a major operation and the decision to give birth by this means shouldn't be taken lightly. Not only does it cost the NHS around £1,000 more than a natural birth, the operation has a longer recovery time and leaves a scar.

Cathy Warwick, general secretary of the Royal College of Midwives, said midwives would discuss the risks and implications of C-sections with pregnant women.

"We are confident that when women are fully aware of the evidence they will not be asking for inappropriate Caesarean sections."

About a quarter of all UK births are currently by C-section, but under these guidelines that number would surely rise for cosmetic and convenient reasons.

Should C-sections be reserved for true emergencies (or subsequent births), or is the decision simply a personal preference?
