The Reason Iggy Azalea No Longer Crowdsurfs

"Buying my album doesn’t mean you get to assault me"

Iggy Azalea

Isn't it exciting—rapper and model Iggy Azalea is currently number one on iTunes? But if you plan on catching her live show, don't expect to get up close and personal with the "Pussy" singer.

According to an article in CBC, the Australian-born 23-year-old confessed in an interview that she can no longer crowdsurf at concerts, because she's sick and tired of being sexually assaulted. Come again?

"Buying my album for $12 doesn’t mean you get to [assault] me when I come to your city."

Turns out, fans—female fans, in particular—were fingering the artist while she surfed the audience at her shows.

“I had to stop,” said Azalea. “I wear, no lie, two pairs of underpants and then a pair of skin-coloured tights and then my pants as like a protection barrier, because there’s just no way I’m going to be intruded."

To paraphrase the many reactions on social media to Azalea's announcement: WTF is wrong with people? Since when are young performers' bodies public property?

Do we have a mental block when it comes to separating the performer and the person?

Was this prank funny or borderline assault?
