RECALL: Gerber® Bear Grylls Parang Machete

Laceration Hazard

Health Canada, Gerber Legendary Blades, and the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (US CPSC) have jointly recalled the Gerber® Bear Grylls Parang, sold separately or as one of the products in Gerber's Apocalypse Survival Kit, with the following model numbers: 

  • 31-000698
  • 31-000986
  • 31-001111
  • 30-0006010 (Apocalypse Survival Kit)

The handle may detach from the blade, posing a laceration hazard. 

While Health Canada received one report of injury, Gerber Legendary Blades received 24 reports of breakages, including one report of a laceration injury in Canada, which did not involve stitches. 

Customers are advised to stop using the Parang machetes and contact Gerber Legendary Blades to receive a free replacement.

From January 2011 to June 2012, approximately 13,184 of the recalled Parang machetes were sold online and at sporting goods stores in Canada, and approximately 119,000 in the United States.
