14-Year-Old Sets Swimming Record

Front Crawling for a Cause

Annaleise Carr now holds the proud accolade of youngest person ever to swim across Lake Ontario. As she made it to the Toronto shore on Sunday night, after swimming more than 52km, it occurred to me that the 14 year old could teach people twice her age a thing or two about perseverance.

Having set off from Niagara on the Lake on Saturday evening, she plunged through waves up to 1.5 metres high and spent nearly 27 hours in the water to realize her dream.

From the small town of Walsh in southern Ontario, Carr swam to raise money for the childhood cancer support centre, Camp Trillium.

As commenters rightly pointed out via Twitter:

  • "Can never complain about 12hr shifts again" -- @_clairechan
  • "When I was 14, I was breaking records for longest phone conversation about boys not for swimming across Lake Ontario." -- @AnatheaT

Ditto to that, and humongous kudos, Miss Carr, for providing so many kids with a worthy role model.
