Respect and Blended Families

Putting Our Daughter's Best Interest First

Today, I had the coolest conversation with my ex and my husband. I have to share it with you because it shows the kind of respect that needs to exist for a blended family to work.

So, my ex sent me a text message saying if we didn’t have plans on Sunday, he would like to pick Rebecca up in the morning and bring her back Monday evening. Normally, it would be a no-brainer, yes of course he could, but this Sunday we are having a birthday dinner for Tom, my husband.

I called Tom and told him my dilemma, and he said “It’s more important that Rebecca spend time with her dad.”

So, I called her dad to tell him, to which he said “No, she’s a part of that family too. I think she should stay for Tom’s dinner, I’ll pick her up after.”

So, Rebecca gets to see her dad and still gets to celebrate her step-dad’s birthday. She is lucky to have two wonderful dads.
