Top Five Stylish Handbags

What's better than a LBD? A stylish handbag that's always the right size!

Top Five Stylish Handbags

I remember crying on my 24th birthday. Not tears of sadness, but tears of happiness because my parents bought me the Fendi purse I had been coveting for months. It was a purse I wanted for a long time, a purse I kept talking about (I probably drove my parents nuts, now that I think about it...) and a purse I used every single day, until it was replaced with another beloved handbag, years later.

Yes, I guess you could say I have thing for designer handbangs. Fendi, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Burberry, Furla, Coach, and Marc Jacobs all live and are proudly displayed in my closet. They're all loved equally. Okay, to be honest, perhaps they're not all loved on an equal level. They're not my children, after all. But they are each loved, and I take care of them all.

The baby in my purse family, though? My Louis Vuitton Speedy. It's with me ALL the time!

This purse has been with me every day (almost) for the last several years. It was with me in the hospital when I gave birth, it has come with me on many vacations, including California, Maine, and Florida, and it always has a seat next to me in the restaurants I go to. My Speedy is actually an American citizen, made in France, and resides happily in Canada.

Since becoming a mom, I need a handbag big enough to hold the essentials (wallet, sunglasses, make-up bag, keys, gum, iphone) and also big enough to hold all the extra things moms need to keep in their purse—soothers, toys, crayons, ipads, bottles, books, water, and more. With the exception of my little evening Gucci purse, all my handbags hold all the things I've mentioned, and more. You would be surprised just how much can actually fit into a Louis Vuitton Speedy! Sure, most handbags I like are expensive, but they're worth it. They last and last, and because I'm always using them, they've all been worth the investment.

The two bags on my bucket list of things I'd love to own one day include an Hermes and a Chanel, but those are seriously out of my price range right now. But hey...I'll never say never...

Here are some new handbags I want/need/must-have/love that are decently priced:

Michael Kors:

I walked into Michael Kors the other day, having a specific purse in mind. I wanted something roomy that I could wear everyday over my shoulder, so when I'm with the kids, my hands are free. I saw this bag, fell in love, put it on hold, and called my mom. "Mom, I've done all the work for you!" I said to her. "I've put the Christmas gift I want from you on hold at Michael Kors!" The next day, I saw a new bag in her closet. I didn't even have to peek inside the bag to know what it was. (This purse is $250.)

Tory Burch:

I'm a huge fan of anything and everything Tory Burch. From shoes to jewellery to handbags, to clothes, Tory Burch is one of my most favourite designers. Also, I find most of her items affordable, even if you do have save for a few months to get what you desire. I simply adore this Robinson Double Zip Tote. It's $575, and comes in black, magenta, violet, and wildberry. It is one of those bags you know you'll use for years and years to come. It is classic, practical, and made from the highest quality Italian leather. What's not to love?

I also completely love the Jaden Tote by Tory Burch, and at only $225, it's a great investment. This is the bag I'd travel with, use every day in the summer, and store all my children's essentials in for weekend road trips. It's a beautiful, practical bag.

J.Crew:

I could seriously move in to J.Crew. I'm completely in love with everything they sell. The softest cashmere sweaters, the prettiest tops, the most adorable line of children's clothes, the cutest flats, classic dresses, and t-shirts you could wear every day, dressed up or down. J.Crew also carries some amazing purses, and this one is now on my "must-have" list. I love the colour, too! It retails for $348.

Banana Republic:

Banana is my go-to store for everything. At last count, 90% of my closet was from Banana Republic. I love Banana for work clothes, evening dresses, and just day-to-day attire. They also have some incredible leather purses too—like this soft leather Paige Pinking Shears Tote for only $160. A steal, I tell you. A steal!

So which purse is your favourite? Will any of these make your holiday shopping list this year?

Jem And The Holograms Take Over Holt Renfrew!

The exclusive holiday launch everyone is talking about...

Jem And The Holograms Take Over Holt Renfrew!

It's never too early to start your holiday shopping, right? Well, maybe it's a little too early, since it is still October, but I know some people (hi, mom!) who are practically done their Christmas shopping already.

However, it's not too early to start writing out those shopping lists so you can make sure everyone you're buying for this year has the perfect gift to open during the holidays!

Here's something that got me so excited—and something I'm totally adding to my "must have" list—Holt Renfrew announced today that Jem & the Hologram Limited Edition Dolls will be launched on November 17th in all their stores across Canada! Isn't that exciting?

The line of Jem and the Hologram high-end adult collectable dolls will be sold for a little over $100, which is reasonably priced for Jem fans, in my opinion. I was addicted to the show... weren't you?

The collection includes Classic Jem, dressed in her awesome hot pink mini-dress, Hollywood Jem, Jerrica Benton, and Synergy. Also for sale? Rio Pacheco, Jem's manager and of course, love interest. Sigh...

“All stops were pulled to create the ultimate JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS adult collectible dolls for old and new fans of the hit 80s TV series alike to cherish and enjoy for years to come!” says Alain Tremblay, marketing director of Integrity Toys, Inc. “JEM fans will be thrilled when they see the tiny episode specific references that have been added to the design of these characters” said Vaughn Sawyers, head designer of Integrity Toys, Inc.

So will you be adding these dolls to your shopping list? I know I will be!

Happy shopping!

The Top Five Blow Dryers: Tried, Tested, and True

Taking Your Hair To Amazing Heights With The Right Tools

The Top Five Blow Dryers: Tried, Tested, and True

Every week, I go to my favourite hair salon for a blowout. Yes, I like to treat myself, because trying to manage my own hair is very time consuming and trying to blow-dry my hair can take up to two hours. Of course, I have an old blow-dryer that I bought many, many years ago, which means it doesn't have much power. Perhaps that's my first problem, right there...

Anyway, the other day I was talking to Erica on the phone and she asked me if I knew where to get a good blow-dryer from. I was stumped! I wasn't even sure where to begin. I did some research and found that a lot of my friends buy their blow-dryer from their favourite salon. Nothing beats a salon-quality blow-dryer. Usually a salon blow-dryer will do a great job if you're doing your hair at home, and sometimes, you can find these great quality dryers at stores like Trade Secrets, Sephora, or any department stores you frequently shop at. Blow dryers range in price lfrom $20 to over $200.

Here are my Top Five picks for Best Blow Dryers:

1. T3 Featherweight Luxe 2i - This blow-dryer (I found it at Sephora) has received great reviews, and uses technologies that reduce frizz while "boosting your hair's health, body, and shine." It also promises to dry hair 90 percent faster. A time saver? Sounds great to me! This dryer has two speeds and three heat settings, and weighs "less than a bottle of water." So your arms won't even get sore! It retails for $250 at Sephora, which, if you think about it, is totally worth it, as my weekly blow-dry costs between $25 to $45, depending on where I'm going.

2. CHI AIr Ceramic Hair Dryer (in Pink!) - This pink CHI ceramic blow dryer is 1300 Watts and promises to create less frizz while leaving your hair amazingly shiny. Best thing about this blow dryer? It's only $99! And if pink isn't your favourite colour, it also comes in black and red.

3. Bed Head Ionic Pink Blow Dryer - This blow dryer sells for under $40 and features 2 speeds and 2 heat settings, and has received great reviews. Another great blow dryer? The new TIGI Bed Head Light Me Up 1875W Blow Dryer, which features "Activie ionic technology with negative and positive capablity." This one sells for under $70.

4. BaByliss PRO - BaByliss is the one name I kept hearing over and over again when I asked what the best blow-dryer was. A really popular dryer is the Porcelain Ceramic 2800 Dryer and has a 2000 watt motor, and six heat and speed settings.

5. The Power of Pink Infiniti Pro by Conair - This 1875 Watt Salon Performance AC Motor Styling Tool blow dryer features 3 heat settings and 2 speed settings, and reduces frizz. That's music to my ears.

Other blow dryers I've read good things about: the Revlon RV544 Tourmaline Ionic, and the Andis 1875 Ceramic Folding Dryer with retractable cord.

So what are you waiting for? Now you can buy a top-of-the-line dryer and have fabuous hair every single day!

I guess it's time for me to invest in a new dryer, too... and I'm torn right now, because it's hard to choose just ONE when all five are amazing!

Happy Shopping...
