My parents used to make their own wine. I remember the giant glass wine vats in the basement. And the tubing, my god the tubing. I’m making wine right now in my kitchen and the only tubes around here are my socks. Tube socks. Get it? No, I have not been drinking. This current batch of wine won’t be ready for another 18.5 days. Yes, I am counting.
I’m testing out a home wine making kit from The Artful Winemaker. It only took half an hour to get the process started. In two weeks, I’ll put in another ten minutes and when the wine is ready in 28 days, the bottling and clean-up process will only require about 30 minutes. Then voila, I’ll have twelve bottles of wine just in time for Christmas. Fah la la la la, la la la yum.
What I love about this system:
I can make wine right in my kitchen. The system takes up very little space and it looks great on my counter.
Plus it smells good.
And it tastes great. I’ve only tried the cab shiraz, but I can say in all honesty, it’s delicious. My husband could not believe it was homemade. I know there are some doubters out there and I’m not calling them "wine snobs" or anything. Ok, maybe I’m calling one of them a wine deeva (you know who you are) but I challenge her to a taste test when this batch is ready.
The full kit comes with everything you need to make your own vintage – machine, bottles, labels, caps, cleansing solution, wine ingredients, instructions and this great book!
There a six varietals to choose from including my two faves, pinot grigio and cabernet shiraz.
It’s economical. You can order refills to make more batches any time. At about $5.00 a bottle, I’m thinking this is going to be often.
