Being the suave teenager I was, I recall trying to look cool in a room full of male models while successfully disconnecting almost every single incoming call. My next foray into fashion involved selling the fab new Alfred Sung uniforms at the Girl Guides of Canada store to girls and women of all ages and sizes. Who knew you could learn so much about fashion while selling cookies and badges?
A Christmas stint at Eaton's saw me placed in the plus and petite departments and turned into several years observing what worked—and what didn't for different body types. And one day I was stopped in a shopping mall by a scout and my almost 20-year modelling career was born—at a happy and healthy size 14. Now I push for diversity in fashion through my work as Director of Ben Barry Agency. It's been a pretty sweet ride!
