Do You Dougie?

The Dance Craze That's Going Viral

First of all if you have no idea what the title of this blog means I am just a little relieved. I pride myself on the fact that I am pretty up to date on most current trends and goings on in the entertainment and pop culture world. I mean I pretty much eat, sleep and breathe celebrity and pop culture, so I felt a little silly when I had no idea what the ‘Dougie’ was.

Two weeks ago my daughter celebrated her 9th birthday, so i did what all smart mothers would do and I arranged for my 14 year old niece and her friend to come over and entertain the girls. Well, not only did they entertain the girls, but they educated me at the same time! After having a full on dance competition thanks to ‘Just Dance’ on the Wii, my niece and her friend decided to teach the girls how to ‘Dougie’. Um, what now?

So – for those of you who don’t know, The Dougie is a new dance craze – yes I said craze – that all the kids are doing these days (think Macarena but way cooler.) Seriously – Google it – it’s everywhere. After watching my daughter ‘Dougie’ suddenly I am seeing references to it everywhere! After watching a room full of 9 year olds ‘Dougie’ the night away I had to look into it further. I mean, how could I miss something that is so huge!? Not only are all the kids doing The Dougie – celebrities everywhere are doing it too! There’s even a ‘Do The Dougie’ song!

I hit up YouTube to check out the Dougie and saw Justin Bieber teaching Ellen DeGeneres the dance - for the record Justin does the Dougie alot – I think he’s partially responsible for the craze. I saw the Glee kids teaching me how to Dougie, Selena Gomez on the set of Wizards of Waverly Place doing the Dougie, NBA star John Wall doing the Dougie (he even has his own dance – that’s for another day) and even the Jersey Shore boys doing the Dougie!! How did I not know what the Dougie was?!?!?!

So – do not be left in the dark like I was! I have attached a video below of the Glee kids teaching you how to Dougie (because I think they did it best) so if you want to mortify your own kids by breaking into an impromptu dance you will be well prepared. I will stick to the Hammer dance, the electric slide and even the Macarena, because those are dance crazes I can do!
