Demi Lovato In Rehab For Eating Disorder, Cutting

Another Teen Star Struggles

Demi Lovato checked herself into rehab this week and never has a topic caused so much speculation for a teen starlet than since Britney Spears appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone and everyone wondered if she had a boob job or not!

Demi Lovato is one of my kid’s most favourite television characters. We watch Sonny with a Chance religiously and Camp Rock 2 is on my PVR and is played almost as much as Dora (which is definitely saying something).

Regardless of why she has chosen to enter rehab I can only guess about the reasons leading up to it. Here’s a beautiful, talented young woman who has been rumoured to have suffered from emotional issues in the past having to tour with her ex-boyfriend when his new girlfriend shows up. Yes it has long been rumoured that Demi suffered from an eating disorder as well as from cutting herself. She also dated her ‘Camp Rock 2’ co-star Joe Jonas but they broke up before the tour started.

She then found herself touring with the Jonas Brothers but Joe has a new girlfriend who showed up on the tour. Of course that would be hard to deal with – that would be hard for a grown woman to deal with! Not to mention dealing with the never ending superficial pressures of young Hollywood to always be thinner, tanner, and prettier.

So there’s lots of speculation about the how’s and the why’s – and now her father, whom she hasn’t even spoken to in years is getting in on it by speaking to the tabloids and pointing fingers but none of that is really helping Demi. In my opinion her father is looking a little Michael Lohan-ish by trying to use his daughter’s issues to capitalize on his own fame-whoring, but that’s just me.

Regardless of the cause I really hope that Demi gets the help that she needs because she is far too young and far too talented to be destroyed by Hollywood. We’ve seen it too far often and hopefully she’ll be a warning sign to other parents who are so determined to make their kids a star that the price of fame is all too often not worth it.
