Who Knew I Had So Much In Common With Madonna?

I Feel Fat Too

Who Knew I Had So Much In Common With Madonna?

It is no secret that I seem to have lost my running mojo. It’s actually been gone for quite some time, and I can’t seem to find it. Add to that the fact that my treadmill is broken and you have some very bad news for the size of my ass. If Spring ever decides to show its face around here I might actually try to motivate myself to get outside and go for a run. Let’s not even talk about that pesky 10km race I’m supposed to run at the end of May!

Yesterday I was busy oooohing and aaaaaahing over the dress porn that was posted all over the interwebs of all the stars who attended The Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Honestly, I could have stared at the dresses all day, critiquing and admiring. One of my favorite looks of the evening was Madonna, who wore a fantastic Stella McCartney blue sateen gown. I felt that she looked gorgeous and youthful and stunning which made me very happy because lately she’s been wearing certain outfits that make me think she’s searching for the fountain of youth but just can’t find it (step away from the ripped jeans Madonna!).

So then I read this statement that she gave to a reporter from UsWeekly at the gala;

"I feel fat in my dress,"

Um, I’m sorry, what?! F.A.T? Wow, who knew that Madonna and I have so much in common – because lately I’ve being feeling fat in my clothes too! Only the one big difference is that while my ass has been growing quite steadily for the last few months, thanks to my mojo loss, Madonna is pretty much the ideal body type!

So what does this say to me!? Well, obviously no matter what shape you’re in you still have those days where you’ll feel like your clothes don’t fit properly and you’ll feel fat. There, I said it. We all have those days! And it’s ok because it is what it is. Also, no matter what shape you’re in, a sateen dress is NEVER a good idea. And that even if you’re Madonna you’re gonna have an off day. This makes me feel much, much better. For reals.

Now I won’t talk about the whole ‘poor body image’ thing because I think Madonna was just being like every other woman in the world and expressing the fact that she was having an ‘off’ day. I don’t think she’s going to scar our daughters by voicing her displeasure over her appearance, although I’m sure someone out there will turn it into that. Obviously Madonna is the furthest thing from fat that there is (have you seen her arms?!) but being over the age of 50 and surrounded by a room full of up and coming starlets who are half her age has got to be tough in an industry where you are what you look like. I actually appreciate the fact that Madonna said it because it makes me realize that even Madonna, who has trainers and chefs and nanny’s can feel self doubt. Just.Like.The.Rest.Of.Us.

So the next time you think you look fat, don’t dwell on it, we all do sometimes, even Madonna. Just do yourself a favour and step away from the sateen. Now if you’ll excuse me I have some running mojo to find!
