As you may or may not have noticed over recent weeks/months, I've been blogging just a bit less. Between this here blog, the work I do with countless small businesses, and my own budding business, This Little Piggy in Toronto, my life is shifting. I got rid of my cable TV early this year, and wouldn't have time to go to the movies even if I really wanted to.
As society changes, and we get to experience new things, new issues crop up. Open adoptions, blended families and surrogacy all help grow families. Surrogacy can sometimes slide into a slippery legal slope as biological parents and surrogates may change their minds.
Sting has a reputation for long, passionate lovemaking sessions (which he has always claimed to be exaggerated or false). He has 6 kids. He also boasts a net worth of over $300 million dollars. With all this money, you'd think Sting's 3 sons and 3 daughters would have it made, but you're wrong. The rocker insists that his kids will not inherit any of his money, calling trust funds "an albatross" around the necks of his children.
Matt has never seen Saved By The Bell. His best friend and I tried to school him by making him watch the "Friends Forever/Zack Attack" episode a number of years ago, but he just. didn't. get. it. Well, maybe now I can try and school him again, because Lifetime is producing a behind-the-scenes movie of the kids on the show. Things could get interesting.
Guys, I'm not sure I understand life anymore. I certainly don't understand other people's choices in many things, but word is that Tori Spelling spent $6,000 on her daughter Stella's 6th birthday party this week, and blogged each and every single detail which leads me to believe that the $6k spent was on top of freebies.
Up until one week ago, I had no idea that there was a children's book series about butts. That being said, when I found out that there was not only a book series, but also a television show, produced by Teletoon, I had to check it out. The Day My Butt Went Psycho takes place in a world where butts live beside their humans, not on them and the story's hero, Zach and his butt, Duce must fight evil butts and protect the world.
Have I mentioned the butts?
There are Goth Butts, Butt Unicorns, Old Butts, Alien Butts and a whole bunch of bad butts.
If you are a woman of a certain age and grew up watching Star Wars like I did, you probably love Princess Leia. She is a crack shot, intelligent and will not let men control her life or her. And anyone who tries to make her inferior feels her wrath!
This past weekend, while we were all outside (I hope), the Kim Kardashian/Kanye West wedding happened in Florence, Italy. The star-studded event was hosted at a fortress rented by the millionaires for the event. Photos of Kims dress started circulating Saturday afternoon here in Toronto, and by Sunday, everyone had seen all the Instagramming, photoboothing madness.
In news that's actually got me at least 10% more excited about Star Wars Episode 7, director JJ Abrams announced today that they will be giving away a prize for one lucky fan to be flown to Abu Dhabi and be put in costume to be a part of the new film. All you have to do is donate $10 to UNICEF's Innovation Labs and Programs.
So, I assume most of us had some semblance of a baby shower (maybe even against our wills!), but I'm also sure none of us ever requested non-invited guests to bring gifts....right?
This weekend was glorious in Toronto! Mother's Day happened, the weather was great, and news hit about two things that I think show we are slowly changing our mindset as a people, and I couldn't be happier.
First, Avril's Hello Kitty video hit the internet. The song is on her co-written album with new husband Chad Kroeger from Nickleback. The song is atrocious. Some called the song racist, while Lavigne herself argued that she loves Japan and Japanese culture and was trying to honour it.
So, when I started this blog almost two years ago, I tried really, really hard to go to the movies at least once a month in order to write movie reveiws. It was fun, the odd time I got out, but having a toddler, working full time (at the time) with a husband who works restaurant hours was challenging, to say the least. Then, Lauchie came along, and, well, the last time we went to the movies, the projector broke and we were SOL.
I did NOT see this coming — George Clooney is reportedly engaged to his girlfriend of a few months, lawyer Amal Alamuddin. Not only does this remind me of Warren Beatty marrying Annette Benning, but it's surprising based on Clooney's absolute refusal to get married for years.

So, have you missed me? Don't know if you've noticed but I've been a bit absent as of late, and for that I apologize. My beloved mother in law, Leah, passed away suddenly after a very short illness, and our family has been sent reeling. My kids have neither of their grandmothers thanks to cancer, and at such a young age, we're particularly devastated. Life goes on, especially when you have small kids.
But, sadly, Henry is confused and angry and so I'm looking for a teachable moment we can share.
Next up in my Talking Parenthood series is the wonderfully talented singer-songwriter Jill Barber, who has an infant around Lauchie's age, the gorgeous Joshua.
As we reported mid-afternoon Monday, Peaches Geldof was found dead at 25. She leaves two young sons both under the age of two. While she's been no stranger to controversy, including when I totally lambasted the woman, I worry that her life in the spotlight has somehow aided in her life ending.
