Calling out Pro-Ana Apologists

Thin is the New Skinny

Calling out Pro-Ana Apologists

I've been swirling this around in my head trying to figure out how or what to say about this site. I wasn't even sure I should post the link because who wants to give traffic to this woman? BUT, I think it's really important that I do because everything about her, including her "apology" post (the most recent on the site currently) is really dangerous for young women and men.

EVERYTHING.

We live in a world where we've elevated starlets and hunks to god-like status because of the fact that they are thin and fit. That's it. Genetics and hard work make them pedestal-worthy in our star obsessed lives. And so we reflect their beauty back onto ourselves. We don't feel good enough. Skinny enough. Pretty enough. Manly enough.

This woman calls her website "Thinspiration" but it's really just "Pro-Ana" (Pro-anorexia/bulimia). And what's so dangerous about that? She's built herself a platform on which to spew her hateful, dangerous ideas, which, in turn, gives people who may have been afraid to do something drastic to their bodies a sort of go-ahead. A kind of, "it's ok to want to be skinny, we support you even if others don't."

And who does this "Skinny Gurl" call out most? Possibly one of the most beautiful, sexy models I have EVER seen......Kate Upton. Kate Upton as in SHE WAS ON THE COVER OF SPORTS ILLUSTRATED KATE UPTON.

And this...this...bitchy woman calls Kate a cow. And says that she must be marching down the runway towards a buffet because she's just so fat.

For fuck's sake, woman. Grow up.

Is it jealousy? Is it complete and utter self-hatred that makes you call such a gorgeous woman fat? Whatever it is, we need to make sure that for every one of this person, there are at least two of us, championing people of all body types being proud of who we are. Being healthy and having fun and truly understanding that one girl can be a size 0 and one can be a size 18, and there is absolutely, positively nothing wrong with that.

If we fat shame a young woman as pretty as Kate Upton, what becomes of even "bigger" women like these

Maybe we should start putting ourselves out there more and hiding from our weight and size? I'd like to start. And I want you guys to spill it too.

My name is Kat Armstrong. I am 175lbs, and I vary in size between an 8 and a 12.

Woah! Totally liberating. If someone thinks I'm fat, well, too bad for you, you miserable person. Because I know in my heart of hearts that I am perfectly, completely flawed and wonderfully happy with who I am. I will continue to wear super skinny jeans, bikinis, and booty shorts and there is NOTHING you can do to stop me.

Emmy Awards Nominees

Are your faves nominated?

Emmy Awards Nominees

Friends! I hope you'll excuse my placeholder, but I really wanted to get the full nominations list out to you yesterday, and was just beyond swamped!

But now, I've got some time, and I want to touch base on a few interesting things I've noticed in the Emmy list linked below.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. I'm sort of surprised that Lena Dunham is nominated, and I wonder if it's only because of all the hype (good and bad) around her HBO show Girls (some background on this here). Do I think Dunham will beat everyone out for this award? No. But it's curious to see her nominated. I'm going to go back and take another look at the show before the awards in September. Maybe the award is deserved for her talent and not just because of the media firestorm.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Way to go, Peggy Olsen! Peggy's gone from a secondary character to a lead in a big way. This is a great coup for her.

Outstanding Miniseries or TV Movie. American Horor Story. REALLY? Firstly, this is a regular series, not miniseries, and second of all, it freaking SUCKED. Possibly some of the stupidest writing I have ever heard verbalized ("Remember our sexy sex?" REALLY? Is this the BEST dialogue you could come up with? I thought we were saving all the crappy dialogue for Glee). And the "horror" aspect? *Spoiler alert* a gay ghost in an SMBD suit can impregnate a woman so that she has one ghost baby and one regular baby in her belly? Worst.

Outstanding Children's Program. Go Degrassi, go!

So, spill it! What do YOU think about the Emmy nominations?

Sylvester Stallone's Son Sage Found Dead

36-year-old Sage Moonblood Stallone found by housekeeper

Sylvester Stallone's Son Sage Found Dead

This is sad, sad news. TMZ is reporting That Sylvester Stallone's oldest son, Sage, was found by his housekeeper on Friday. He was 36.

The Daily Telegraph is reporting that he may have been "dead for days" before being found and police in LA aren't sure that they would consider it suspicious. TMZ is also reporting that he overdosed on pills, but the police are saying that he may have had a heart attack or died of some other natural causes. We will know more when the autopsy is complete.

Sage was the son of Sly and Sasha Czack. He was a writer, actor (played Rocky's son in Rocky V), producer and director who owned a film company and was planning on marrying his longtime girlfriend next weekend in Las Vegas. There are some reports surfacing today that he had been "out of it" in the months leading up to his death.

Sylvester Stallone's rep released the following statement Friday:

"Sylvester Stallone is devastated and grief-stricken over the sudden loss of his son Sage Stallone. His compassion and thoughts are with Sage's mother, Sasha. Sage was a very talented and wonderful young man. His loss will be felt forever."
