When people see, hear, or realize that you have six children, many questions and comments follow. Here’s a list of the ones I most commonly hear, including a few of my favourite answers:
Question/comment: “Why did you have so many kids?”
My response: “I kept having them until I had one I liked.”
Question/comment: “You look really good for having had six kids”
My response: “Put a period after the word ‘good’ and say no more words.”
Question/comment: “You don’t look like you’ve had six kids.” (While eyes are going up and down my body)
My response: “You can’t see my uterus.”
Question/comment: "So is this a blended family?”
My response: “I’m not sure how that is relevant, but it just so happens the children have the same genetic contributors.”
Question/comment: “Are they ALL yours??”
My response: This t-shirt:
Question/comment: “So are you DONE?”
My response: “I’ll let you know after I pee on a stick tomorrow morning.”
Most people ask because they are genuinely interested in a family that is quite different from theirs. Do you have a big family or a unique family situation that leads to lots of curious questions from strangers? How do you generally respond?
