Tighten Your Corsets: "OUTLANDER" is Back!

Tighten your corset, don your kilt (and maybe find a place to stash away that dirk in case of trouble): Outlander is back on TV this Sunday!

For those who may be wondering where else the absorbing, genre-blending, time-hopping story could be going, the answer is that the adventure has really just begun. (And for those of you who have the telephone-book sized novels piled up permanently beside your bed: no spoilers!)

In the months since its premiere, Outlander has become a legitimate phenomenon and made it even harder for star Sam Heughan to walk down the street and get a coffee, and deservedly so. The page-to-screen story has faithfully adapted the romantic adventure, making it appointment television (in this house, anyway).

When we last left Claire (Catriona Balfe) and Jamie (Heughan), it was looking like Claire had started to make her peace with being stuck in the 1700s forever, and maybe, just maybe, she might be enjoying this “forced” marriage to a handsome Scot. Which would make a tidy end to the tale — but it’s just the start of their adventures. Check out the preview:

All good stories have a disgustingly evil villain, and they don’t get much more disgusting than Jonathan “Black Jack” Randall, who bears a curious resemblance to Claire’s husband, Frank, who jas been left alone in 1946 and wondering what on earth has happened to his wife. Both "Black Jack" and Frank are played with restrained rage and devilish sneering by Tobias Menzies, who, after this, I may not want to meet in a dark alley.

Outlander appeals and succeeds because it’s simply a great story, and no one can resist that. If part of the story happens to involve a wildly handsome man who really fills out his kilt — well, that’s just part of the story, isn’t it? Just watch out for circles of stones that emit a hum when you’re out walking…you might end up a traveler yourself.
