The Greatness In You Comes Out At The Most Surprising Times

mother with crying baby

Have you ever had one of those days? One of those nights?

Dear Lord, those nights.

You’ve been up all night with a teething and crying baby. Cleaning vomit from the carpet and sheets for the umpteenth time. Soothing a feverish child until the light of dawn.

Before you know it, it’s morning. And you’re pretty certain your head never even hit the pillow.

It might have, but you just have no recollection of it at all.

Because you’re just that damn tired.

And now you have to do it all again.

Well, that’s when you know you’re an amazing parent.

That’s parenting at its hardest.

You did it.

And you’ll continue to do it.

It’s those days when your children need you the most that you do what you never thought you could.

That’s when you tap into a strength you didn’t know you had.

That’s when you have to be the best of you. When you’re feeling at the very worst of you.

But you still reserve all your sympathy for the one that kept you up all night.

Poor teething baby. I wish I could fix it for you.

Poor feverish child. I wish I could make you feel better.

You’re not thinking of you.

And that’s the best of you shining through.

You may look a mess and your house might be a disaster, but that love is strong.

That love is what brings out the greatness in you.

That love is everything.

And that’s what keeps you going even when you think you can’t.
