What's In My Kitchen: Slow Cooker Edition (and a Contest!)

WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN BUYING A SLOW COOKER

There is nothing cozier than coming home to a slow cooker dinner on a cold, dark day. There is something nearly magical about throwing ingredients in a pot on your way out the door in the morning, and being welcomed home by the aroma of a piping hot, delicious dinner on your arrival later that evening. Some of my fondest childhood meals were slow cooked meals. Stews, soups, sausages...the options are really as plentiful as your imagination allows.

Here's a recipe for the first slow-cooker meal made in our house this fall. I'm looking forward to a winter filled with family dinners served from it!

WHAT'S IN MY KITCHEN: SLOW COOKER EDITION

I've never really bought into the bells and whistles available when it comes to buying a slow cooker. I don't need it to tell me the time, read me my horoscope or fetch the paper. I need it to cook my food. Slowly. Having a High and Low setting is useful for different recipes or depending on the time I have to get dinner on the table. So really it's about finding something that's sturdy, large enough for my family, with some standard functionality.

Crock-Pot Smart-Pot Slow Cooker

The 6-quart Smart-Pot by Crock-Pot does all of the heavy winter lifting in our house. The removable oval stoneware is dishwasher safe which means not only is dinner made in one dish; that dish doesn't need to be washed by me! It also will automatically shift to Keep Warm once my cooking is done, which takes the pressure off if we are stuck in traffic or chasing after the kids. dinner is ready and waiting, not drying out and burning.

And we're giving away a snazzy Damask 4.5qt Manual Slow Cooker from Crock-Pot! To enter, all you have to do is leave a comment below and tell me your favourite slow cooked meal.
