Makeup That Works for Me

Excellent Canadian Made Cosmetics

Makeup That Works for Me

This week I shared my fave new face cream, my $15 new summer dress and my fave new sexy and comfy shoes.

When it comes to makeup, I have a love hate relationship with it. I love the way it makes me look *when applied properly.* I hate buying it because I never know what the heck to buy.  Sometimes swag bags hold my future fave products.

When I was on CityLine for the Blogger Special, one of the products in our gift bags was Liquid Cover Up by Vasanti. The way it covers up my dark circles and bags makes a huge difference to the way I look, especially on camera.

I've been using this concealer for over a month so far and I love it. It has great coverage, it seems to reflect light around the darker part of my eye and it blends so nicely into my skin. Serious thumbs up.

Since then, I've also tested out the Eye Wonder Triple Action Peptide Eye Cream. Although my beauty guru Dan Thompson claims eye creams are unnecessary, I actually like this product. My eyes feel less puffy and my "life experience" laugh lines seem minutely lessened. It's probably in my mind, but what the heck, it makes me feel better.

The only other Vasanti product I've had the pleasure of testing is their Vitamin E Infused Lipshine. I'm not a fan of heavy, sticky lip gloss, so this was another thumbs up for me. There was just enough pigment in the pink to add colour, but not unnaturally bright, which is a personal pet peeve.

So, who is this Vasanti Cosmetics? It's a Canadian company run by three women who manufacture locally. Awesome! Not only do I look good, I'm also helping woman and our local economy.

That's beautiful.

My Fave Summer Shoes

Casual, Yet Sexy Shoes Really Do Exist!

by: Erica Ehm

My Fave Summer Shoes

I'm not a shoe-aholic. In fact, I'm pretty boring when it comes to footwear. Give me a black boot with a chunky heel and a few studs or embellishments and I'm good. I can't bear wearing high heels. I feel like I walk like a duck. Even this couldn't help me. And then my feet kill! How do women do it??

So, my ongoing challenge is to find a pair of shoes that give me some extra height to create the illusion of long lanky legs (as if), while being comfortable and affordable. Usually I buy Rockports.

But this weekend I was at the Shoe Company with my kids, who have both once again, grown out of their school shoes. So while they were trying on runners and sandals, I slipped away to see if I could find some casual, yet sexy, footwear.

And voila!

I found this pair - from the Bob Collection - which I discovered is part of the Sketcher family. A combo of wedge and platform, this beige and white striped canvas shoe is so uber comfy, I can't believe it. Sure, they don't have the same hot quotient as stilettos - but I wore them all day and my feet were happy. And my legs looked long(ish).

Cost to look hot: $50. Cost to have happy feet: Priceless!

Yesterday I showed off my new fave summer dress that cost $15 (don't hate me cuz I shop well). Tomorrow - a new cosmetics line that I'm loving.

A Summer Dress I Love

And You Won't Believe the Price!

by: Erica Ehm

A Summer Dress I Love

I had half an hour to kill before my son's end of year school play, so I visited my favourite waste of time - aka H&M. Whenever I feel the need for some retail therapy, I can usually find something perfect and cheap! Sorry, not cheap - inexpensive. I found an awesome dress for $15!

But what makes life even better on the fashion front is when the style gods align as they did for me. Depending on what the design mavens decree every year to be stylish, I may be in fashion heaven or hell. When low rise jeans were all the rage, I had to stop wearing jeans for a year or two. Muffin top doesn't work on me. When the empire waist was considered hot, I just looked pregnant so I stayed away from that look.

So, the other day, while doing the hunting and gathering at H&M, I knew this was going to be a good year for me style-wise. Why? Maxi-dresses are hot! Yay and double yay! I find the long drapey look so flattering and effective at hiding lumps and other imperfections. See my interview with Ivanka Trump - we both have the same maxi dress from Anthropologie!

And, to take the euphoria one step further, the layered, unfitted maxi is also hot (again). I remember sewing a version of this dress in Home Economics in grade seven. I think it was referred to as the "Holly Hobby" look. But today, this A-line peasant dress creates the illusion of a perfect body under all that fabric. Or at least that's what I tell myself.

I bought it in the all purpose shade of grey. I plan to dress it up with a multitude of colourful scarves and accessories and take it with me wherever I go this summer.  As long as it doesn't shrink or I don't grow - this will be my fave summer steal!

Yesterday I posted about my new fave face cream! Tomorrow, I'll give you a sneak peak of my new fave summer shoes.
