Help your car beat the heat

5 Tips To Keep Your Car Cool

Leaving your car parked outside while you make an escape to an air-conditioned environment? Here are five tips to keep your car cooler while it's waiting for you.

Park in the shade where possible. Or try parking with the sun towards the rear of your vehicle. That way there's less direct sunlight on your front dash and seats.

Leave your windows open (about half an inch) to provide some venting for the trapped heat.

Once you enter the vehicle, open your windows and turn up your A/C. Your air conditioner shouldn't take very long to deliver that cold air. Once the cold air comes into the cabin, it'll help circulate and move the hot air out.

Use windshield sunshades. Yes, lay those big silver shades across the inside of your windshield and keep them propped up with your car's visors.

Consider tinting your windows.  When done right, it blocks harmful UV rays which keeps the inside of your cooler. Remember to avoid using the pull-down sun shades that are affixed to the window with a suction cup. These can become flying objects during a collision and cause injury. Remember the young Delta, BC woman killed by her laptop?
