It's a good day for a sweet and fruity white wine sangria ice pop.
You see, I had high hopes for an early fall... August was so mild. Until about a week ago. Suddenly the late July-early August temperatures of 40 celcius with humidex (that's about 104F for you yanks) descended upon us. And lingered. Unfortu-coincidentally, my air conditioning is shut down due to renovation in our house. What's the point of air conditioning the outdoors? When it is, as my colleague Ashley puts it, "hot as balls," it doesn't matter how many windows you've got open. It is hot; no two ways about it.
So as is proper when my kitchen is mostly shut down, and it is "hot as ____," I have been putting my ice pop moulds to good use, lately with another spin on my favourite alcoholic beverage: the white wine sangria. This white wine sangria ice pop is made with lemon-lime soda pop, like many liquid sangrias, which I'm not a fan of in drinkable form but I enjoy in ice pops, after all the carbonation has a chance to fizzle away. There's just a handful of ingredients, so it requires no complex prep! Flavored with chunks of frozen berries, it's a sweet and fruity treat just right for a hot day.
