Cosmopolitan Magazine: Beauty Myths

Did They Get It Right?

Cosmopolitan Magazine: Beauty Myths

This month's edition of Cosmpolitan Online showcased a story called: "Top 5 Beauty Myths That Are Surprisingly Untrue."

I was very curious to see what the story included, since most of the time fashion magazines do nothing except perpetuate myths as fact.

Here are some great beauty myths that Cosmo busted correctly:

  • Chocolate is not bad for your skin.

CORRECT!

Many people think that chocolate causes a host of skin disorders, and that is simply NOT true. As a matter of fact, the higher the cocoa content of the chocolate, the more health benefits it can deliver.

  • Toothpaste will not stop a zit.

CORRECT!

While toothpaste can dry out acne, it does not kill the bacteria causing the problem. More often than not, what happens is the skin becomes irritated and flaky and the acne gets worse.

  • Trimming your hair does not make it grow faster.

CORRECT!

The hair you cut is dead and not growing at all. Growth happens from the roots, and there is no way to speed this process up at all. It is a simple matter of genetics. Trimming the split ends will keep the hair looking healthy, but it does not stimulate hair growth.
