Best songs of 2012 Mash Up

DJ Earworm: United State of Pop

It's been a long year music-wise and every year I always look forward to the mash-up offering by DJ Earworm. He brilliantly puts together in one seamless flow the songs that made their mark in 2012. The official video for 'United State of Pop 2012' will be unveiled on December 25th.

Overcome by Live

Sometimes A Song Expresses It All

With every news story I read, every interview I watch regarding the horrific events that happened last week in Newtown, CT I always find myself coming back to one song. Sometimes one song replaces the need to say how you feel...or puts into words the emotions of disbelief and horror and that sense of being completely overwhelmed. This song by Live became the unintended official tribute song for 9-11.

Last Sunday was cold, windy and miserable and I found myself listening to this new track on repeat for most of the day.

The song is from the Australian buzz band, Dancing Heals.

The group had made quite a stir at CMJ this year, and have also been heating up the college and independent radio charts across the U.S. in the past few months, including some seroius attention by KCRW and KROQ.

Jonathan & Charlotte

An inspiring story from Britain's Got Talent

Teenagers Jonathan & Charlotte rose to fame in the U.K. through the TV show Britain’s Got Talent. A TV show that I'm a little obsessed with—so many amazing auditions and stories of undiscovered talent.

From the first moment I saw their audition on YouTube I was an instant fan. It tugs at the heart strings, gives you goosebumps, and reinforces that whole 'never judge a book by its cover' saying...

My Son Is Being Bullied

No kid should ever feel afraid to go to school—ever

It’s 2:03am on Saturday night and I’m wide-awake and completely unable to sleep. My mind keeps replaying the conversation earlier this evening my husband and I had with my six-year old son.

My son tonight admitted to us he was being bullied at school.

Slightly obsessed with song as of late...not my usual hit-repeat-on-the-iPod kind of track.

But once you hear it...you can't help to want to hear it again. I love the musical arrangements and the voices of Joy Williams and John Paul White. Together they are perfection.

SongPop: Test Your Song Trivia

this fun app will have you face palming your forehead and asking "how did I get that wrong?"

My latest favourite timewaster on my iPhone* and Facebook is SongPop.

Think Jeopardy but in musical notes.

It's a song clip challenge game where you compete against friends and see who can guess the song in the shortest amount of time. There are a ton of playlists (and thousands of songs) to choose from...ranging from current hits, modern rap, classic '70s, the '80s, cover songs, musicals and classic country. The bonus is that you can continue the games on either Facebook or your iPhone.

Eminem Turns The Big 4-0

Slim Shady, the real Slim Shady, turned 40 this week

"I am who I am and I say what I think. I'm not putting a face on for the record" ~Eminem

Yes hard to believe but Mr. Marshall Bruce Mathers III turned 40 this week.

Seems like yesterday he burst onto the music scene and was offending everyone with his in your face rapid fire lyrics. But Eminem proved he had the goods and the staying power.

Adele's Skyfall

The New Bond Theme

The 23rd Bond film will be making it's big screen debut here in North America on November 8th.

And today marks the Bond franchise's 50th anniversary of the first Bond film, "Dr. No." To celebrate this huge milstone, the latest Bond theme song has been released, recorded by that British girl Adele. Maybe you've heard of her?

Once you hear the theme song, entitled "Skyfall" you can't think of anyone else singing it. Adele does well as a Bond girl.

Of Monsters and Men

Single: Little Talks

I love DJs for many reasons but especially when they can take a song and remix it to the point where they make it so completely different....different vibe, different feel, and essentially turn in into a different song. It's an incredible talent. And here are one of those examples...

Take the song 'Little Talks' by Of Monsters and Men (one of the biggest songs at alternative radio..think Mumford & Sons but with a harder edge...and a song that I play repeatedly on my iPod)

Today's music sharing project is all about random music selection.

Hit shuffle on your iPod and pick the first 20 songs that play and share.

And no 'skip to the next song cause I don't want anyone to know I listen to this song' cheating either.

We won't judge. Really. Them the rules.

Now go.

Shuffle away.

Introducing Space Fight

New Music Find: Pop Meets Rock

Space Fight's story begins as a romantic tale.

In 2009, Spencer Miles—frontman, bassist, and New Jersey native—quit his job, left the band he was in, and packed up to follow his girlfriend to London despite not knowing where he would live, if he would find a job, nor ever having visited the city before. Once he arrived, Miles fortuitously met drummer Billy Hawkes and guitarist Tom Welch.
