“The classically-trained Barry has a pure and ethereal voice (Enya is a reference point) that frames emotionally eloquent compositions that dig deep lyrically and feature adventurous arrangements.” ~Kerry Doole, New Canadian Music
Earlier this year Toronto indie singer/songwriter Monique Barry released her 4th album, called 'Wake', and she's off to a great start, with her track 'Forgive Me' being added to the in-store playlist at Chapters/Indigo stores across Canada.
Halfway into last night's MVAs I concluded three things...drum roll please...
1. The creative artistry that is the performance mind of Lady Gaga is soooo far behind my comprehension level that I'm just going to officially stop 'trying to get it' (not even three double gin and tonics would have helped me).
2. I must be getting old.
3. Miley Cyrus needs to spend a week on an Amish farm.
I am soooo loving this new song by Swedish DJ Avicii.
It's the latest 'play non-stop on my iPod track.' The bonus? It includes vocal tracks from another one of my faves...Aloe Blacc.
The video was just released and it's basically one long advertisement for Ralph Lauren's Denim & Supply clothing line (the Swedish DJ teamed up with the designer for this video take on an all-American adventure).
So I've been feeling a little country lately. I blame crossing off the Zac Brown Band off of my concert bucket list last week at the RBC Ottawa Bluesfest.
They were phenomenal. Go see them live if you can. It'll be one of the best concerts you'll ever see.
OK it's no big-shocking-TMZ-breaking-news-headline that I, Consuelo Bernardi even at age 40, have a soft spot for the boy bands of my youth.
And cue my slight not-quite-yet-restraining-order-worthy-crush on NKOTB, more specifically my love...lust...he's still super hawt in my books, Donnie Wahlberg.
When it comes to working out sometimes a playlist full of songs you can't help but move to eliminates the need for excuses...but then again the lure of chocolate and that glass of sangria is a little too strong.
But I digress.
Bottom line means being able to indulge that much more in all things sinfully good. Cough. Cough.
I know it's only May but I may crown this track as my favourite song for Summer 2013. At the very least it's going on every single iPod playlist I create during the next three months.
It's the perfect road-trip-driving-with-no-real-destination-in-mind-with-the-sun-shining-windows-rolled-down-music-turned-up-loud kinda song. I've been hitting the replay button on this song a lot.
Why it took me this long to discover this song and this artist I have no idea (album came out in 2011)...
But it's like Amy Winehouse reincarnated...and then some. You'll hear the comparison but it's got more of an old skool, sleazy, sizzling, raw, bluesy, hot oh-so-sexy sound to it. I am a kazillion-times-over envious of her voice.
This is the most out of this world cover version of David Bowie's 'Space Oddity' ever!
It was recorded by Commander Chris Hadfield while on board the International Space Station. Chris Hadfield handed off the role of commander yesterday and is making the big trip back to Earth today.
Mother’s Day is approaching (May 12), and in honor of this special day, Rdio has put together a playlist full of tracks that pays tribute to mothers everywhere. From Christina Aguilera to Alicia Keys and some of the music from today’s hottest moms is included in this musical tribute.
So back on American Idol last year I had a hunch about Phillip Phillips during the audition round that he was going to walk away as the winner (and he did)...
Well now that the battle rounds on The Voice: Season 4 are over I am going with my hunch again and am predicting that one Sarah Simmons is going to be crowned the winner.
So one of my 'did you hear this song' musically inclined friends introduced me to this band last week...not sure why it took me until now to discover them but I'm so glad I did.
The vocals and melodies on this song are like buttah...so soothing and folky, that they instantly transport you to a lazy hazy day somewhere in California (think Fleetwood Mac meets The Smiths).
