Five things about Matthew Mayfield:

*Matthew's musical journey started back in 1992 when he fell in love with Guns N' Roses after seeing Slash get up on the piano for the finale of 'November Rain'.

*When Matthew was nine, he decided that he was going to be one of two things: a bank robber/surfer or play in a rock 'n roll band. Deciding that he was neither brave enough to ride big waves or radical enough to rob banks, he decided on a life with a guitar in hand (for the record his mom...very happy with that career decision).

*Matthew signed a giant record deal with Epic Records in 2005 - but left for the D.I.Y route in 2008 after he came to the realization that longevity in the music biz is not about overnight success. It's about grinding it out for a long time...working your ass off and paying your dues over and over again.

*Matthew has had a couple of songs featured on Grey's Anatomy and has made it to #1 on the iTunes singer/songwriter chart a few times.

*Matthew raised $14,000 via Pledge Music by selling among other things handwritten lyrics and studio memorabilia...with that money he was able to record his new album 'Now You’re Free'.

Matthew is in his late 20s now and hasn't stopped dreaming or paying those dues. He misses home but the bottom line, what drives him to keep going, singing, recording and touring is pretty basic...he loves this music thing and he's addicted to it.

And while we're at it...here are three more random facts about Mr. Mayfield: He still tours old skool...in a van. He has a thing for gummy worms during 4AM fuel stops and he hasn't mastered that whole sleeping in a moving vehicle concept...yet.
