Music And Cocktails

Drinkify Brings Together The World Of Music and Drink

Music And Cocktails

I have a new favourite website thanks to an email I received this week from Jane Chapman.

I will never listen to music the same way again…without wondering what drink would go well with my song of choice. What better to kick off the weekend?

The website? Drinkify

The creators? It was created in 24 boozy hours by Hannah Donovan @han (Design), Lindsay Eyink @leyink (Data), Matthew Ogle @flaneur (Code)

Basically, it automatically generates the perfect cocktail recipe to accompany any music. You enter the artist you’re listening to and it suggests a drink...so simple yet so brilliant.

OK so the cocktail suggestions may not always be perfect, sometimes they're just damn ridiculous (they have a disclaimer that says just that) but come on this is way too much fun!

My poor damn liver.

So to experiment…(research purposes people, research), I hit shuffle on my iPod and here are the first ten songs that came up…along with the beverage suggestions by Drinkify.

Michael Jackson – Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough / 8oz. Red Bull

Kelly Clarkson – You Found Me / 1 oz. Red Bull

Lady Antebellum – Need You Now / 1 oz. Laphroaig Scotch

RHCP – Scar Tissue / 1 Bud Light

Rihanna – Only Girl (In The World) / 1 oz. Red Bull + 1 oz. Tabasco sauce + 1 oz. Lemon Sour

Madonna – Music / 4 oz. Vodka

Pet Shop Boys – Always On My Mind / 8 oz. Red Bull + 8 oz. Rose’s lime juice + 4 oz. Hennessy

Lady Gaga – Born This Way / 6 oz. Vodka

U2 – Angel Of Harlem / 10 oz. Vodka

Stevie Wonder – Superstition / 12 oz. Hennessy + 12 oz. egg whites

RIP Heavy D

The Loss of A Pioneer

RIP Heavy D

When you think rap pioneers, one of the names that come to mind is Heavy D.

Heavy D passed away yesterday at the age of 44 after bring rushed to a Los Angeles hospital.

One of his last performances was at the recent BET Hip Hop Awards. It was a fantastic performance...his first in nearly 15 years, and Hev even managed to break out his dance moves circa 1988. That performance was a great trip down old skool memory lane...and the crowd that night could not get enough.

I still remember buying my first Heavy D & The Boyz cassette, 'Big Tyme' in 1989 with my allowance money at Sears.

I wore that cassette tape out. I was officially hooked on that hip hop/rap musical style.

This tweet on Twitter yesterday from @HotComesToDie said it all: Heavy D tweeted his last tweet last night at 10:30PM: BE INSPIRED. He was dead 15 hours later. Live it up every day people, every day.

R.I.P Heavy D. You were taken far too soon.

Introducing Aloe Blacc

Soul Singer, Rapper and Musician

Introducing Aloe Blacc

So my brother's girlfriend gets the official praise for introducing me to this artist (she knows I've got a little sumthin sumthin for all musical things R&B and soul).

Ever since she sent me that initial email, that went along the lines of 'have you heard of this guy - SO SO good', I've been listening to one Mr. Aloe Blacc religiously ever since.

So who is Aloe Blacc? Born with the very posh and dignified sounding name of Egbert Nathaniel Dawkins III...Aloe Blacc is an American soul singer, rapper and musician.

But most importantly he is le damn good.

But I'll let you make that judgement call for yourself.

Now if the concert gods really want to smile down on me...I'm thinking a double bill with Aloe Blacc and Fitz & The Tantrums in Ottawa. Just saying. But I digress.
