Facebook is still my favourite social network; I love the connection with long distance family, friends (new and old), and the curated list of articles for me to read. This is a service I am happy to pay for. Of course no money is exchanged to use Facebook. You pay with personal information.
Every week a new social network is announced but rarely do they even make a wave in today's digital landscape. Not so with Peach. Peach showed up on the Apple App Store and then gained massive popularity through mentions on Twitter. The new networks touts itself as "a refreshingly fun and simple way to keep up with friends and be yourself."
Every year in January there is a massive conference in Las Vegas called CES, or the Consumer Electronics Show. This is an opportunity for companies to showcase their latest in tech gadgets. Big trends for this year include wearables, health tech and ‘smart’ home products. There is also an entire area of the show dedicated to technology for kids and parents, as well as a set of awards called the KAPIs (Kids At Play Interactive).
Any woman who has ever taken a pregnancy test is acutely aware of the emotional, intimate, and agonizing three minutes of waiting for those test results. The only thing that could help in that situation is a video of baby animals timed perfectly to the waiting period... wait, what? Oh yes, the 'puppy and kitten video' feature is one of several on First Response's new Bluetooth pregnancy test.
Time off school in my house always starts with a "yay" and quickly escalates to a "now what?" Good question. I'm game for anything inexpensive, easy to set up, and that doesn't involve three hours of clean up for me at the end. I am also a big advocate for STEM activities (science, tech, engineering and math); partly because I am a huge geek, and partly because kids love them.
First off, what is STEM? It is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. They have been grouped because they overlap in terms of education and future jobs.
Research shows that we are losing girls in STEM fields by age 10. Not grade 10, age 10. Why? No one knows for sure, but my (totally biased) opinion is that the toy market is largely to blame.
There are a handful of computer hacks and data breaches that have made headlines. Most notably was the Ashley Madison breach that had everyone glued to their news feeds. Unfortunately though, there are 10s of thousands of websites hacked on a daily basis that are not reported on. Which is probably why you may not have heard about the latest hack: VTech.
