How to Make Playdough

Easy homemade playdoh recipe

This is fun for toddlers and pre-schoolers to play with and easy for kids and tweens to help make. Homemade playdough is family-budget friendly and oh-so-easy to make.

You will need:

Adult supervision using stove

Medium-size pot

Wooden spoon

1 cup flour

1 cup warm water

2 tsps cream of tartar

1 tbsp oil

1/2 cup salt

food colouring

Hint: This is what cream of tartar looks like (it's in the spice aisle—and I share this because it took me forever to find in the grocery store)

Directions:

Turn on stove to medium heat.  Mix oil, water and food colouring in pot.  Add flour, cream of tartar, and salt.  Stir constantly for 5 minutes to ensure mixture doesn’t burn.

When mixture forms a ball it is done. Remove from heat.

Not to be eaten! When stored in an airtight container—playdough can last a few weeks.

Change up: use Kool-Aid crystals instead of food colouring. Remember that kids still can't eat playdough (even if it smells like watermelon Kool-Aid).
