Anti-Valentine's Day

Cashing in on Feb. 14

Valentine's Day is a holiday created and consumed by commerce and card manufacturers conning loved ones into buying items they don't really need for a holiday that brings more guilt than gain.

My. little. opinion.

I am anti-Valentine's Day despite my ideas for easy kid Valentine's Day activities with my kids (hey, any reason to do an inexpensive activity with my kids is cool with me).

I would love for someone to give us all "permission" to not have obligatory Valentine's sex. I don't want to see chocolate body paint next to the cash register when I'm buying diapers.  I am all bah humbug about Valentine's Day, a holiday which I am quite sure marketing companies manufactured to up the February sales figures.

Why does commerce cash in on Feb. 14 when there are so many ways our families' show us they love us...everyday...?

Like getting a hug.

Or hearing "I love you Mommy"

Or simply seeing you are growing loving, healthy, happy humans.

And to me romance is hearing "hon, why don't you go take a shower— I'll watch the kids."

The commercialization of Valentine's Day is a turn-off.  I say show your love through your activities.  Everyday.

Whether you embrace the romance of or refuse to partake in forced declarations of love, our Valentine’s Day page is filled with articles, crafts, activities, and food to fit your mood.
