10 Reasons Why Visiting A Waterpark Is A Summer Must-Do

A trip to a waterpark should be a mandatory summer event for every family. Even if you have a pool or a lake in your backyard, the fun of a waterpark simply can’t be matched anywhere else. Lucky for my family, we live close to Canada's biggest theme waterpark, Calypso, where we recently spent a day doing, er...research...hard research on why you and your family should visit this summer. So without further ado, here are ten reasons why you should make visiting a waterpark, such as Calypso Theme Waterpark, an annual, family tradition.

1. Summer is short in Canada

It's ridiculously short. You just put your mukluks away and you’re going to be pulling them out again soon, my friend. You have a teeny weeny window to enjoy these things in the summer. Don’t let the opportunity pass you by.

2. The Food

You know what mama, a hot dog never killed anyone and cotton candy ice cream is delicious. Plus, you don’t have to cook. If that’s not a win, I don’t know what is. If you are really insistent on healthier options, Calypso offers healthier fare at some of its park restaurants. Then there’s always the option of bringing your own lunch, especially when a park like Calypso actually encourages this, offering hundreds of picnic tables for families to set up at for the day. Just promise you’ll at least throw some empty calorie, nutritionally devoid treat in there, ok?

3. Lazy rivers are good for the soul

Seriously, you can float in a lake or a pool if you must but there is something just so relaxing about floating down a meandering river that takes all your stresses away.

4. The Opportunity to Laugh. Hard.

I don’t care how uptight you are, if you can travel down the Kongo Expedition with your family and not laugh, then you’re made of stone. Without a doubt this is my all-time favourite waterpark attraction, ever. Let’s just say it’s a not-so-lazy river with a ton of fun along the way.

5. No more Mrs. Nice Guy

It is time to challenge these kids and show them who’s the boss. Mwahahahaha. Don’t even think about holding back. Race them down the Fast Track or dare them to beat you at the Jungle Challenge. Just a word of advice, I’d bet household chores on this just to sweeten the pot.

6. Find your fountain of youth

Want to know where you can find the fountain of youth? In the Calypso Palace Wave Pool. Jump into the waves and marvel as your age becomes a state of mind rather than a number. True story.

7. Get your waterslide thrills

Every once in a while, an adrenaline rush is exactly what you need to remind you you’re alive. Why not get your rush under the watchful eyes of trained lifeguards? My favourites at Calypso: the Frosty Drop and Boomerango.

8. The Chance to unplug

STEP.AWAY.FROM.THE.COMPUTER. Get outside, burn off a little energy, and get your heart pumping. It's good for your health and plus, let's not forget reason #1, shall we.

9. Exhaust your kids

Let’s face it, it’s hard to keep children amused during the summer. They are constantly looking for something to do. Have them spend a full day at the waterpark and I bet they'll be asleep in the back seat before you get out of the parking lot. Ahh, the sweet sound of silence.

10. Make family memories

Get over the whole “wearing a swimsuit in public” thing and let go of your hang-ups. Your kids just want time with you and they’ll remember holding hands with you while floating down the lazy river or laughing so hard their stomachs hurt while on a slide with you. They will not remember if you had a little cellulite showing and neither will anyone else.
