We all know the dangers of soaking up a little too much sun: sunburns, premature aging, and most frighteningly, skin cancer. Most parents I know, myself included, reach for sunny-day basics like hats, sunscreen, and lightweight clothes to help cover our children’s skin from UV rays but we often forget one really important thing: our children’s eyes.
From time to time, my smarts escape me and I find myself pondering the stupid decision(s) I made. I recently considered my stupidity at great length as I stood on one leg in a public washroom eyeballing a disgusting blister on my right foot as I ran cold water over my tootsies to soothe them and reduce swelling. I felt even more intelligent when a well-dressed, sophisticated looking lady happened upon me in her building’s ladies’ room. Awesome. (Luckily for everyone, I was wearing pants.)

Like many moms juggling work, life, and household duties, I find it hard to carve out the time to make elaborate meals each night. The colour red is the most emotionally intense colour, even stimulating a faster heartbeat and breathing-rate. It's also the colour of luuuurve. Red is an eyegrabbing shade, and its intensity can be a little overwhelming. The most romantic colour, pink, is less stimulating but still beautiful. And contrary to my what my mother told me once in grade eight, you *can* wear pink and red together.
Scarfaholism is best defined as a dependency on or addiction to scarves, and I am definitely living with this condition. I’m not exaggerating when I say that I don’t leave the house without a scarf during the winter, but throughout the spring and fall you can almost always find me with a scarf draped around my neck. I even have “summery” scarves, for days when the weather is a little cooler (or for when I want to jazz up my outfit).
When I was in university, I first lived in an all-girl’s dormitory, and then moved in with female friends. Prior to moving out of Mom and Dad’s house, I was pretty unaware of the multitude of weird (and icky) beauty practices and blunders that women deal with. I’m lucky enough to be able to marry two of my loves – style, and (you guessed it!) technology – by writing this here blog and working for an HR tech company. I often come across neat products in my line of work, and this pretty clutch was one such find.
I’ve been asked a number of times to describe my style and it’s always left me a little stumped. I mean, Do I even have a signature style? Perhaps this is a question that you’ve been asked (or asked yourself) once or twice. If I had to describe my style, I’d define it as equal parts classic and trendy. I like to play with new shapes, textures, and styles but I never venture into things that don’t feel me.
I really love getting into the kitchen, especially during the holidays. Because we’re really busy between work, preschool, play dates, and writing, my son and I rarely have elaborate meals.
