Being able to empathize with our children is the second pillar of my Connect Four Parenting because our ability to see how life is through our little one’s eyes can help us calmly and appropriately respond to them.
Empathizing—even on days when that feels really hard—helps us reel in negative core beliefs, thereby putting our focus on soothing our child and problem solving the situation. We can better take care of our children when we understand how they feel. We are more able to choose positive discipline techniques rather than harsh punishment when we feel their pain.
In this episode of the "A to Z of Taming Tantrums," I discuss the letter E, and E is for Empathy. Please watch the video to learn why empathizing with our children can be tricky, and what we can do to change that.
If you would like to read more, I invite you to read this post: How To Be An Empathetic Parent Even When It Feels Hard. I also invite you over to my Facebook page where I regularly post about how to increase our calm and empathy during the rough parts of parenting.
We're so excited to share with you the A to Z of Taming Tantrums video series!
Each week we'll share the next letter of the alphabet and Andrea will discuss how it relates to reducing tantrums - and improve our experience as parents! You can view each video here as they are added each Friday.
