Calming is very important and can be quite challenging. Here are my tips for being calm when our children are upset.

Hello! Welcome to the third episode of our A to Z of Taming Tantrums Series. Today’s video is about the letter C, and C is for Calm.

Calming down is certainly an easy thing to say, yet often, a very difficult thing to do. The part of our minds that trigger strong feelings of anger or frustration get activated when our children experience emotional upset.

Not only do we need to support our kiddos during tantrums, but we have the big task of shifting from our “back-brains” (the limbic system where the fight-flight reaction gets activated) to our “front-brains,” too (the prefrontal cortex where our rational and critical thought get stimulated.)
