Zajac Ranch Gives Parents Peace of Mind

Zajac Ranch offers a safe camp for anaphylactic kids

Nestled amongst gorgeous trees, across 41 acres of wilderness land, on Stave Lake in Mission, British Columbia, you'll find Zajac Ranch. With beautiful amenities, they truly offer the ultimate kids camp experience:

"Zajac Ranch for Children offers many varying activities including: horseback riding, rock climbing, canoeing and kayaking, archery, a high ropes course, low ropes course, and lesson plans in orienteering, wilderness survival, and gold panning." They've got a beautiful pool, a theatre, and basketball court, and tons of space for outdoor sports. Come on! How incredible is that? And it gets even better, because they also offer a one-week camp specifically designed to keep anaphylactic kids safe. From August 25-29, 2014, Zajac Ranch is offering their popular Anaphylactic Camp for Children with Food Allergies. I can't say enough how much I love this, and how much I wish this was closer to me so it could be a realistic option for when my son is old enough for camp.

From their site:

Our Anaphylactic Camp has been structured for children aged 7-17 who have moderate to severe allergies, their siblings and/or their friends — our kitchen will be prepared to handle all food allergies and dietary concerns and will serve meals free of the Top 10 Allergens (milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, sesame, mustard, wheat & soybean). We will be working alongside Anaphylaxis Canada to ensure our facility has been appropriately sterilized and all required preparations are taken into consideration in order to ensure a safe, controlled environment for 2014’s anaphylactic campers to enjoy a typical outdoor summer camp amongst peers.

Zajac Ranch for Children’s Anaphylactic Camp will provide:

For your peace of mind

  • A camp structure and environment supported by Anaphylaxis Canada and Dr. Edmond Chan, Head, Allergy and Immunology, BC Children’s Hospital
  • A 1:3 Counsellor to Camper Ratio
  • Staff trained by Anaphylaxis Canada’s training program
  • Sterilization of meal preparation area, kitchen equipment, and dining hall
  • Fully equipped 24/7 Medical Centre staffed by registered nurses"

To have such a safe place for kids to explore, learn, and gain independence is amazing. I spoke to a parent of one of the campers, Shelly Nellis, whose daughter has multiple food allergies and attends the camp every year. Nellis has been helping with the camp since it began, and said that Sanofi will be providing one Allerject per camper (amazing!) this year.
