New York Post Takes Shot At 'Kimye': Cruel or Comical?

New York Post Takes Shot At 'Kimye': Cruel or Comical?

kanye west wedding

Have you read the New York Post's announcement of the Kanye West and Kim Kardashian nuptials this past weekend? Well, it begins with "Two jackasses got married in Italy Saturday..." and carries on in the same vein (courtesy of Mashable).

The Post makes no secret of its unflattering views about one of the most famous showbiz unions, Kimye.

Admittedly, the paper's snark is funny and refreshing amidst all the tabloid coverage of an event most lay people couldn't give a toss about.

However, is publicly describing any celebrity as a "sex-tape star" and an "egotist" respectively fair game or does it border on libellous?

Regardless of your opinion on Kim and Kanye, do they deserve more respect in the media?

#YesAllWomen Rallies Against Elliott Rodger's Misogyny

PUA Site Claims "more people will die unless you give men sexual options"

#YesAllWomen Rallies Against Elliott Rodger's Misogyny

yesallwomen and PUA website

There have been many responses to recent Santa Barbara massacre, in which Elliott Rodger killed six people and himself, but the one by a Pick-Up Artist (PUA) website may be the most unfortunate.

In a post called 'The Return of Kings,' author ‘Roosh’ explains that Rodger wouldn't have resorted to violence against women had he simply been better schooled in the art of seduction, or 'game' as it's known.

According to an article in Raw Story, Roosh blames the ideologies of American culture and media for the murders committed by Rodger, and predicts that "more people will die unless you give men sexual options.” (By which he means removing the social stigma surrounding prostitution, etc.)

If only Rodger had subscribed to the PUA techniques, all this tragedy could have been avoided. Really? Ugh.

Such thinking is as twisted as the manifesto, 'My Twisted World' written by Rodger, chronicling his hatred for women and contempt for the men who manage to bed them.

No wonder women and men alike took to Twitter's #YesAllWomen hashtag in droves to counter Rodger's misogyny.

Some of the most powerful tweets, courtesy of an article in Global:

Mary Beth Williams @embeedub
"Because we tell women they're "stuck up" when they avoid that "nice guy" who seems like a misogynist psychopath. #YesAllWomen"

Rev. J.F. Crawford @TheMissionalist
Because we teach little girls that the reason why Johnny was mean to you is "because he likes you." #YesAllWomen

Lexi Alexander @Lexialex
Very proud of most of my male twitter friends who understand that #yesallwomen is not a women vs. men but a good vs. evil movement.

There is no doubt that Rodger was chronically lonely and awkward. But it is a vast leap from awkward to the kind of pathology that drives someone to commit murder. And that pathology has precious little to do with having—or not having—'game.'

What do you think of Roosh's comments?

The 'World's Ugliest Woman' Wants You To Look At Her

I want to be the protector of those who think it won’t get better

The 'World's Ugliest Woman' Wants You To Look At Her

the lizzie project

The world's "ugliest woman" wants you to look at her. Following her inspirational TED Talk in December 2013, Lizzie Velasquez plans to share her remarkable story of loving herself in spite of her appearance in a full-length documentary.

“I know what it is to be bullied and what is to be bullied online, and I want to be the protector of those who think it won’t get better,” said 25-year-old Velasquez, whose rare medical condition prevents her from gaining weight.

Blind in one eye, the Texan is a 64-pound superstar, who has penned self-help books and been interviewed by Katie Couric and ABC’s The View.

At 17, after viewing a comment about her saying, "Do the world a favour and put a gun to your head," Velasquez rose up and became stronger. She chose to view her condition as an opportunity, not a death sentence.

“Instead of just taking shelter of my tears, I chose to be happy and realize this syndrome is not a problem but a blessing that allows me to improve myself and inspire other people,” said Velasquez in an article in Global.

The rarity of Velazquez's condition is matched only by her resilience. She credits her positive outlook on her family's unconditional love and support.

'The Lizzie Project' is seeking to raise funds via Kickstarter. With $123,000 of the target $180,000 reached, the campaign ends May 31.

Help Lizzie Velazquez tell her incredible story.
