Science has a fascinating new theory about menopause, and men are are the driving force behind it. According to an article in the Star, guys who opt for younger women are to blame for causing their partners' loss of fertility.
It's an evolutionary thing, claim researchers at McMaster University, who found that men who opt for younger mates bring about menopause in older females.
“What we’re saying is that menopause will occur if there is a preferential mating with younger women and older women are not reproducing,” said evolutionary biologist Rama Singh.
Over time the menopausal period became "part of the overall human female genome."
". . It becomes a simple age-related disease, if you can call it that,” said Singh, who co-authored the study, which was recently published in the journal PLOS Computational Biology. “That’s just like all the mutations that affect our aging—white hair, weak muscles, this and that. These are mutations which affect fertility.”
Apparently human males differ from many other primates when it comes to their mating habits, with male chimpanzees in particular exhibiting a preference for older females.
So if men kept digging older women, maybe their reproductive cycle would hold up for longer, says Singh, thus deferring the many health issues that arise from hormonal changes, such as increases in cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis. A wedding ring is a valuable symbol of the bond between husband and wife. Imagine how deep in the doghouse this husband was after inadvertently pawning his wife's ring—worth $23,000—for a measly $10 at a yard sale.
According to an article in Gawker, Racquel Cloutier was in the hospital, giving birth to their fifth child. To keep her wedding ring safe from her two-year-old twins, she placed it in a watch box. While left to his own devices, her hubby held a yard sale, at which he included the watch box, which some lucky, unsuspecting someone bought for $10.
Imagine his wife's surprise, when she returned from the hospital to find the box gone.
“I’m very, very, very upset,” Rachel Cloutier said. “I’m trying to remain optimistic but I don’t know anymore. There’s a small chance whoever bought the box doesn’t know the ring is in there.”
Her husband claims a blonde woman hesitated before purchasing it. The couple is hoping she, or whoever comes across the ring, will do the honest thing and return it its rightful owner. Meantime, this story may fill her with some hope.
As for Cloutier's husband, it's probably safe to assume there will be no steak and BJs on offer this Father's Day.
In a story that will make you see red and white, an Ottawa-born teen was driven out of a school in upstate New York due to relentless taunts by faculty members.
According to an article in the National Post, what began as joking turned decidedly sour for 15-year-old Noah Kilpatrick who attended Faith Fellowship Christian School in Watertown. Strangely, it wasn't fellow students responsible for the bullying, but Noah's own teachers and principal who jibed him with Canadian stereotypes, from seal clubbing to communism.
"In class, Noah would make a comment and the [teacher] would say, ‘Oh yeah, that’s because you’re Canadian’—those things aren’t funny,” said his mother, Tina Kilpatrick.
Despite reminding teachers that he's lived in the United States home for the past 10 years and holds full citizenship, the taunts continued. He began recording verbatim statements in a notebook. When his mother confronted school administrators, Noah claims he was made an outcast.
“[The principal] would make fun of the way I dressed and he’d say, ‘Oh, you’re wearing Canadian colours,’ and I’d be like, ‘Yeah, I am. Thanks, Mr. Curinga.’ He’d say, ‘That wasn’t a compliment,’” said Noah.
Although Noah's brother remains enrolled at the school, his family is considering moving back to their native land due to the backlash in the small community.
“This is so intense right now that if it stays this way … if we feel ostracized this way, then we won’t stay,” she said. Check out what this mom did when her teen was bullied at school.
