Three-Year-Old With Magic Golf Swing

boy golfer

Have you ever been jealous of a three-year-old? Well, this little guy from Ireland makes Tiger Woods look like a has-been.

Mini golfer Michael Patton shows incredible skill—or is it luck of the Irish?—in recent home videos that have gone viral in pretty much the time it too him too tee off three times lucky in his front room.

“Michael started chipping plastic balls into the hole in the roof of his playhouse," said proud dad, Rob, in an article in Yahoo. "He kept getting them in so we got the camera out and started filming.”

Beginners' luck or one to watch?

Would you publicize it if your child had an uncanny talent, or would you worry it would jinx his gift?

Unaccompanied Boy Sneaks on to Las Vegas Flight

He's leaving home, bye bye...

Unaccompanied Boy Sneaks on to Las Vegas Flight

boy watching plane

Who hasn't dreamed of running away from home? Well, one kid got farther than most. A cunning nine-year-old boy managed to get through security without a ticket at a Minnesota airport before boarding on a flight to Vegas (where he likely had a lost weekend planned).

According to an article in Gawker, the boy was screened by TSA bods at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. The cheeky lad went on to nab a bag from a luggage carousel, and got away with an eat-and-run at the airport restaurant before boarding the flight to Sin City.

"More than 33 million people travel through Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport every year, and I don't know of another instance in my 13 years at the airport in which anything similar has happened," said Metropolitan Airports Commission spokesman Patrick Hogan.

Fortunately, the Delta Airlines flight crew noticed there were no unaccompanied minors on their flight list, so this story has a happy ending—well, maybe not for the boy.

He made it across five state lines, before being handed over to authorities. While the boy's backstory isn't clear, Delta is now investigating the obvious holes in its system.

Is the boy's chutzpah admirable or terrifying?

Thigh Gap: Latest Must-Have For Young Women

another fad or more pressure for girls to look a certain way?

Thigh Gap: Latest Must-Have For Young Women

thigh gap

Forget the generation gap, or even the age gap. Today's young people are concerned with only one kind of gap: thigh gap. The latest obsession for girls has everything to do with having thighs that do not touch.

In my day there was another name for thigh gap—bowlegged—and it wasn't exactly sexy. But what did we know? So these days, when a girl has to lie down to pull on her skinny jeans, the bigger the space between her thighs, the better.

Apparently Thigh Gap (TG) has long been a thing, as our friend Google will attest. According to an article in Common Health, there are even particular diets to help girls attain TG.

And as the author of the article points out, we are throwing our kids mixed messages all the time. On one hand, we emphasize the importance of inner beauty, etc, while "we work out and order salads for dinner," often obsessing about our looks even as we are telling our daughters not to. Le sigh.

Teens will always be overly concerned with body image. It's a fact of life, but when you factor in the internet and social media, well, "it’s like peer pressure on steroids."

Girls may take their cues from the media, but ultimately it is the way that the female of the species pressure ourselves and our peers that leaves the most lasting and damaging impact.

Is Thigh Gap just another girl fad or a dangerous sequitur into eating disorder territory?

Or are some young girls simply more susceptible to the latter than others?

Pssst...Have you heard of Barbell Apparel? They have actually recently launched their anti-thigh gap jeans for athletic bodies. We love this!
