Outrage Over Video of 4 Year-Old Feeding Pack of Pit Bulls

"People said it could never be done"

Outrage Over Video of 4 Year-Old Feeding Pack of Pit Bulls

When I watched this video of a four year-old girl in the U.S. feeding a roomful of hungry male pit bulls, one fact stood out: these are amazingly well trained dogs. (So well trained, in fact, that I wished to call up the little girl and have her train my dog!)

Mom Bites Off Dog's Ear To Save Daughter

Yet many people who watched the very same footage saw something entirely different: a little girl within close range to a pack of hell hounds that would tear her limb from limb in a heartbeat.

"She is in danger! Where are her parents?" said Mary Menefee on Twitter. (Call it a hunch, but something tells me the person filming may be the girl's mother.)

"I'm ok with someone owning pit bulls. But it's a strict liability thing. They are KNOWN killers," said another user, DostoevskyShade.

This Town Is Going To "Dispose" ALL Living Pit Bulls and Rottweilers

It's no secret that pit bulls have a bad rep, and there have been attacks. Yes, even fatalities. While I don't condone such incidents, they stem from irresponsible ownership—and the fact that pit bulls tend to be something of a status symbol for precisely the sort of people who should never own a dog of any kind.

I know plenty of responsible pit owners, who have lovely dogs to show for it. It's clear that the dogs filmed are an exceedingly disciplined bunch. Witness how patiently they wait and follow the girl's orders, even when the food is on the ground.

Dogs all share the same evolutionary origins. It's a fallacy to assume that some breeds are natural killers while others are natural softies.

At the risk of reading too much into a two-minute clip, my guess is that this family falls on the responsible end of ownership. The proof as they say, is in the YouTube footage, which has been viewed more than 120,000 times.

#GoldenGlobes: Rosamund Pike's "Brave" Dress Steals Show

Girl Gone to Award Show

#GoldenGlobes: Rosamund Pike's "Brave" Dress Steals Show

You could be mistaken for thinking that the most noteworthy thing about last night's Golden Globes was a dress. Awards? Movies? Pah! All played second fiddle to which swathe of fabric the leading ladies happen to be wearing. And none more so than that of actor Rosamund Pike, whose dress overshadowed the role she played in Gone Girl.

Twitter went berserk, with users unanimously applauding Pike for being "brave." Her white dress (Vera Wang, for those who care) was low slung and exposed some side tummy. Brave, really?

Steal Her Style: Reese Witherspoon

"Rosamund Pike wore Vera Wang tonight. She's brave to wear a cut-out gown after just having had a baby! #GoldenGlobes" ~@DailyFrontRow

"Rosamund Pike hair situation: excellent and making me want to part my hair on the side. Dress is very brave 5 weeks post-baby—bravo" ~@evachen212

What's brave is the fact that someone who has just given birth five weeks ago would dare to even attend an award show and set heeled-foot on the red carpet, knowing full well every mole and every laugh line would be deconstructed by the masses for days to come.

And I dare say Pike would have received the same "star treatment" even if she'd worn a paper bag or a swan costume (where is Bjork when you need her?).

Pike's dress may not be to my taste, but wearing it doesn't make her brave.

She's brave simply for attending an award show wearing the body of a woman who has just birthed a baby. That, in Hollywood, is a taboo and truly daring feat.

A Cheeseburger to Haunt Your Dreams

Even the bugs know to avoid it

A Cheeseburger to Haunt Your Dreams

cheeseburger

What happens to a cheeseburger from McDonalds if you leave it there for a long time—as in, two years? Well, precious little, apparently. And that's the terrifying part.

When a pair of chiropractors in Michigan left their leftovers on the counter of their clinic, even they were probably shocked at the outcome.

This Teacher Got Healthy On A McDonalds' Diet

Far from being subject to the laws of decay that apply to the rest of the food chain, the McD's burger—as well as a chicken taco from Taco Bell—failed to attract mould, nasty smells, and basically just sat there staring back at patients who visited the clinic. Even the lettuce barely browned or wilted.

The fast food display failed to attract ants and other bugs in the summer months. Seems the insects know to avoid it.

Even the cheese and pickle topping the burger are eerily intact. The burger, claimed Dr Jacqueline Vaughn "[is] basically mummified."

The reason for the food's relative immortality can be attributed to a wonder preservative called calcium probinate (CP), used to keep all kinds of foods—from processed meat, breads and cakes—looking "fresh."

Though CP is non-toxic and reportedly 'safe' to consume, it doesn't follow that you should do so often, as it can inflame the stomach.

Parents Beware: These Pods Are A Hazard To Your Kids

If that doesn't make us think twice about what we eat, then nothing will. I'm no nutritional dictator. My son's diet is balanced in that he occasionally eats junk food.

In fact, over the holidays he had a Happy Meal. He chose the grilled cheese and apple slices (which mysteriously don't brown either). I don't kid myself that this is somehow a 'healthy' option. But since I can count the times we visit McD's in a year on one hand, I don't sweat it.

But a picture really is worth a thousand words.
