Top 3 Designer Cosmetics

Best In Show For Higher End Options

Top 3 Designer Cosmetics

There is a reigning myth that I am opposed to all higher priced cosmetics. Again and again I say this is not actually true. While I am opposed to overpaying for cosmetics, I am not opposed to paying for quality.

As a makeup artist, I have to always have the best options for my clients. Yes, it's true, I produce my own line of cosmetics, and 98% of my work is done with my collection, but I am the first to admit that there are some amazing cosmetics out there that are well worth the purchase.

Here are my top three designer cosmetics products that I think are worth the money:

1. Christian Dior: Diorshow Buildable Volume Mascara ($25 for 8mL)

One of my favourite mascaras on the market! Not because of the actual formulait is pretty run-of-the-millbut because of the brush. Great mascara is all about the brush, and this particular one is amazingit provides massive volume in a few strokes. Said to be inspired by a trick most makeup artists have used for yearsthat of applying mascara with a toothbrushthis brush does not fail to impress. No clumping EVER!

Daniel Thompson Beauty comparison: The Mascara ($32 for 7.75mL)

Same splayed brush, with a mineral-based formula. No plastic particles, rather a blended silk fabric overlays the lashes. Water resistant for up to 80 minutes, and paraben-free as of 2013.

2. Yves Saint Laurent: Touche Éclat ($40 for 3mL)

I worked for YSL when this product launched in the early 1990s. Originally available in only one shade, it is now matched to 12 different skin tonalities. Not quite a concealer, but not actually a skincare item, this product doesn't cover, but rather breaks and reflects light from the skin, to instantly make shadows and signs of fatigue vanish.

Daniel Thompson Beauty comparison: Absolute Light ($58 for 2.3 mL)

Oil free, wax free, coal tar dye free, and paraben free, this is a true natural-based alternative that provides the same great benefits in a formula that is free from petrochemicals.

3. Guerlain Météorites ($58 for 30g)

These pearls of colour balance the tone of the skin without the need for foundation. In one stroke of the makeup brush, all red, yellow, and tired skin tones are radiant and polished. Perfect for travel or for those no-makeup days.

Daniel Thompson Beauty comparison: Mineral Corrector ($89 for 8g)

Talc-free means touch-up free. This version is applied once per day, and wears for 9 hours without touch-up. Even holds up under humid weather conditions. A true mineral formula that is free from parabens, oils, wax, and filler.

All of these products are in my makeup kit, and all get used regularly. These must-have cosmetics will be sure to please!
