Why are People "Strobing & Baking" their Faces?

strobing and baking make up technique

There have been a lot of strong makeup trends recently – from heavily defined brows to the intense highlighting and contouring made popular by Kim Kardashian. Some of the recent buzzwords coming up in the beauty community include “baking your face” and “strobing.” Here’s a quick rundown of these terms – in case you wanted to give these techniques a try.

BAKING

Let’s start with baking – this is actually a very simple technique of setting your foundation or concealer so that it lasts all day. After applying and blending your concealer, you apply an EXTRA heavy layer of setting powder and leave it on your face for 10 minutes. (You can take this time to do your hair or finish the rest of your makeup). After the powder has “baked” onto your skin, you use an eyeshadow brush to dust off the excess – and voila – you’re left with coverage that won’t budge!

STROBING

If you want to try strobing – all you have to do is create a strong highlight. So instead of working with light and dark colours like you do when you’re highlighting and contouring, you JUST focus on highlighting your face. Add cream or powder highlight on various parts of your face (bridge of your nose, cheekbones, brow bones, cupids bow) – this will bring these areas into focus and leave you with a youthful and glowing finish.

Have you heard of baking and strobing your face? Will you be trying either of these techniques?
