The Importance of Mom Communities

Thank you for existing. I have no idea how new moms survived in 1917 without mommy websites. I suppose they communicated via morse code or carrier pigeon.

 

Dot-dot-dash-dash-dash meant "I'm up breast-feeding for the ten thousandth time tonight, please tell me I'm not alone!" 

 

And if you wanted to invite little Millie in the next town over for a playdate, you planned it six years in advance (cuz that's how long it would take a carrier pigeon to make the round trip...I google mapped it—don't question me...) 

 

Honestly though, thank goodness for the internet. I don't know how many times various mommy-related websites like Playtex's Mommyville have been a savior. When you don't have the answer to seemingly simple and basic questions like "How often should I burp my baby?" there is always an eager Mom ready to answer you. 

 

Another thing I like about the Mommyville website in particular is that they have helpful articles and good product suggestions for your baby at various stages of development. I know when my husband and I went to register for our baby shower we were OVERWHELMED with the options. There were products we'd never even heard of! "Do babies really need...THIS?" So instead of making decisions, we decided to just play laser tag with the scanning gun and see what "popped up" on our registry

 

(I'm mostly joking, by the way...)

 

In all seriousness (this is me, putting on my "serious" hat. Talking to you in my "serious" tone) it is so incredibly helpful as a new Mom to have a community of other Moms that you can turn to for advice. No one else knows what you're going through like another Mom. Mom's really do know best. When you're up late and you're sleep deprived and you feel like your world is spiraling out of control—it is reassuring to know that you are not alone. Knowing that others have been through the same thing is the most reassuring thing in the entire world. 

 

The mom-force is strong, and thank goodness. We really do need one another.
