Moms, This Might Make You Fall in Love With Kevin Durant

NBA player Kevin Durant gives emotional tribute

Moms, This Might Make You Fall in Love With Kevin Durant

nba speech

"Basketball" and "emotional" aren't two words typically seen in the same sentence. But all of that is about to change, thanks to NBA player Kevin Durant. The Oklahoma City Thunder recently delivered a powerful and touching speech while collecting his first Most Valuable Player award.

According to an article in Mashable, ever since Durant joined the NBA in 2007, he has been a down-to-earth presence in a sport where ego often reigns supreme.

Not so for Durant, who has never forgotten his humble beginnings. In his speech (around 2:40 mark), he credits his single mother Wanda with raising two boys when the "odds were stacked against us."

"You made us believe," said Durant. "You kept us off the street ... You sacrificed for us. You are the real MVP."

Not a dry eye in the house...

Go on, share this tribute to share with your own MVP.

This guy gave his mom the ultimate Mother's Day gift.

How Do You Feel About Brooke Birmingham's Bikini?

SHAPE Mag Refuses To Print Woman's Weight Loss Bikini Shot

How Do You Feel About Brooke Birmingham's Bikini?

brooke on a diet

Brooke Birmingham has a lot to be proud about. The author of the blog 'Brooke: Not on a Diet' shed more than 170 pounds and kept it off. But when the 28 year old attempted to tell her story to SHAPE, she was told the fitness magazine wouldn't print the picture of her in a bikini, loose skin and all.

According to an article in Buzzfeed, when Birmingham submitted her photo in the 'Success Stories' portion of SHAPE, she was asked to resubmit another in which she was covered up in a T-shirt. When she questioned the logic, Birmingham was told the magazine's editorial policy required her to be "fully clothed, simple as that.”

“I felt like my body wasn’t good enough to be featured on their website,” said Birmingham. “When you log onto their website, the first thing that pops up is a woman in workout pants and a sports bra. There have been other success stories with women in bikinis.”

Of course SHAPE was quick to distance itself, blaming the "misunderstanding" on the freelance writer covering the story.

But Birmingham was adamant: if the magazine refused to portray her authentic self, then she would share her story elsewhere. She blogged, and the rest is viral history.

“It all boils down to, I want people to know they shouldn’t feel ashamed of how they look,” Birmingham said. “I get that [SHAPE's] a business. I get that America is judging on appearance, but at the same time, some of us need to see the real thing.”

Young Woman Films Her Abortion

Emily Letts Wants You To Know That Abortion Isn't Scary

A 25-year-old woman has shared a video of herself (shot from the waist up) having an abortion in order to prove to others that terminating her pregnancy "wasn’t scary."

Emily Letts knew she wasn't ready to have children, so she decided to go public with her abortion, hoping to put a positive spin on an experience that is seldom portrayed as such.

"I don’t feel like a bad person, I don’t feel sad," said Letts, a month after the procedure. "I feel in awe of the fact I can make a life. I knew that what I was going to do was right because it was right for me and no one else. I just want to share my story."

The video garnered many views, and her story appeared in Cosmopolitan magazine, according to an article in Metro.

Choosing to end her pregnancy was clearly a matter of personal choice for Letts. But is there such a thing as a positive abortion story?
